Plan of Action

As previously discussed, we want to increase your general technology skills. Our plan of action is comprised of two separate pieces. The first piece is to begin scheduling assignments on Google Classroom and PEAR Assessment ahead of time. The second part is incorporating Grouper into your lesson as an engagement tool.

How could these action steps help with increasing general technology skills?

  • You have previously stated that you lacked confidence with implementing technology in your classroom. Research has proven that “teacher preparedness is mainly related to confidence, more precisely, self-confidence in deploying DT(digital technology) in the classroom” (Chilla et al., 2024). Therefore, without the confidence to implement the technology, you will not feel prepared when it is time to post assignments through online learning platforms.

How could these action steps help with increasing general technology skills?

  • You also mentioned that you tend to default into your "old school" ways, and that students are not always fully engaged. According to Landa et al. (2022), “The integration of ITLTs (innovative teaching and learning technologies) increases student engagement, motivation, and accelerates learning.” This leads me to incorporating Grouper, which is a simple online platform that utilizes many of the same tools you use on a daily basis.

4. You may also set a close date (which is the same as a due date). Once you have selected your open and close dates, just hit assign in the top right hand corner.

Conclusions

Here's a few tips to consider:

  • Attempt to schedule assignments on Google Classroom and PEAR Assessment when you are creating your lesson plans. You can always edit the scheduled dates and times if needed.
  • Try incorporating one tool from Grouper at a time, as to not overwhelm yourself. Use the tools that make the most sense for you, such as the randomized groupings or the timer.
  • Take things slow and give yourself grace! It will not be perfect the first time you use the tools.
