Science: Plant Life Cycles
Learning Goal
I can investigate and describe how plants respond to stimuli.
Plants are living beings. Just like us, they need certain things to help keep them alive. Plants need carbon dioxide from the air, water, and sunlight. All living things respond to their environment. For example, when you feel hot, you sweat. Plants respond to their environment too!
Living things include bacteria, mushrooms, plants, and animals. All living things have basic needs to stay alive. Energy is needed by all living things. Plants use energy from the Sun by using their leaves to gather its energy.
Whenever you go outside to play, you may notice that your body changes. Out at recess, you may notice that your body sweats when you run and play. Your body is reacting to the heat, which can be called a stimulus. A stimulus is something that causes a response. The heat is causing your body to sweat.
Your pupils change size in the light/dark.
When the school bell rings, you go home.
A stimulus is something that causes a response. Select all the options that show a stimulus and response.
Plants respond to light by growing upward toward the sky. Sunlight is the stimulus and growth is the response.
Gravity pulls on plants and causes the roots to grow downward. Gravity is the stimulus and the response is that the plant grows towards its strong pull.
