The CURE Curriculum is a transformative K–8 social emotional learning (SEL) program designed to build self-worth from the inside out. CURE stands for Confidence, Understanding & Relationship Building, Resilience, and Empathy—four foundational pillars that empower students to navigate their social world with strength, compassion, and clarity. Unlike traditional anti-bullying programs that focus on external behavior, CURE goes deeper—nurturing each child’s inner voice, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills to create lasting, positive change. Students gain the tools they need to handle challenges, build meaningful relationships, and develop a strong sense of self. The CURE Curriculum is aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Student Standards, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) Framework, and the Learning for Justice Social Justice Standards. Closegap is a nonprofit, school-based mental health platform that gives PK–12 students a simple, daily check-in to share how they’re really doing. Through a fun, developmentally appropriate digital experience, students name their emotions, flag needs, and can either ask to connect with a trusted adult or choose self-guided SEL activities. Counselors and school staff see real-time alerts and a triaged list of students, plus dashboards that surface trends over time so they can prioritize support instead of guessing who needs help. Designed with educators and grounded in research, Closegap helps schools catch concerns early, strengthen relationships, and respond to the youth mental health crisis with data-informed care. From Sara Horak, Know Your Neighbor Game creator ~ "I created the Know Your Neighbor® Game to help people connect with each other away from their phones and social media. Our website is https://knowyourneighborgame.com. There is a one minute promotional video to show very quickly how the game is played. Ultimately, it's a game all about building connections and learning about others as well as yourself. I designed it to help with schools' social emotional learning curricula. A Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor reviewed and approved every card to ensure it was safe from a mental health perspective. Several schools currently utilize It with great success to help students (and staff) connect with each other, including some of the following: University of Illinois(Newman Hall), Santa Clara University (Leavey School of Business), St. Ignatius College Prep, Notre Dame College Prep, Loyola College Prep, Stevenson High School, Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School, Glenbrook South High School, North Shore Country Day School, St. William Catholic School, St. Paul of the Cross, Mary Seat of Wisdom, Queen of All Saints, Immaculate Conception, St. Edward, St. Juliana, School District 64, Emerson Middle School, Pleasant Elementary School (District 44), Lincoln International, etc. It is currently sold in all eleven Edie's and Marigold's stores, different retail establishments, at both Misericordia store locations, on our website, and on Amazon. A complete list of our partners can be found on our website - here. We are in the final stages of producing our next game, Know Your Neighbor® Game - The College Edition. It is due to release this summer. I created this game to help college-aged students connect with one another in a light-hearted, yet intentional way. I wanted to enhance students' sense of belonging, in a positive and fun way, on their respective campuses."

As we kick off another year of supporting Illinois youth in their efforts to make an impact, become community leaders and create bright futures, we recognize that the more resources and opportunities available, the better. Counselors create incredible environments for fostering youth confidence, connection, and growth and model a commitment to healthy living, social responsibility and youth development. The Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute (CGTI) offers a place for middle school and high school students across the state and around the world to learn about leadership, healthy choices, and working with others to make a long-lasting difference. CGTI, founded in 1974 and a program of the Illinois Association for Behavioral Health (IABH), is a youth leadership program, and one of the largest and most acclaimed Teen Institutes in the nation, that takes place each July and January. Our 52nd annual leadership camp will take place July 12-16 at Eastern Illinois University. When you attend CGTI, you and your youth will: - Have specified time dedicated to creating action plans that breakdown community needs, with a focus on a data-supported, evidence-based, step-by-step process. - Gain access to a network of other youth-centered organizations, motivational speakers, free resources and more that can contribute to youth development and growth. - Receive critical leadership training in foundational skills including facilitation, communication, and peer collaboration, important to future readiness and student success. - Engage in substance use and mental wellbeing prevention education, expanding youth understanding, healthy risk taking and positive peer relationships. - Have fun with a community of like-minded leaders that prioritize healthy decision making, community wellbeing and youth possibilities! CGTI provides opportunities for youth looking to increase their knowledge, develop skills and make meaningful connections as they carve out their futures. Students already involved in extracurriculars such as School Clubs, YMCAs, Youth Commissions, Youth Coalitions, Youth Advisory Boards, etc., will find CGTI as a meaningful resource on that journey and students still looking for the right places to cultivate and discover their passions will find that home with us.  We believe you and your youth would find this opportunity as an excellent way to continue building strong peer connections and fostering a positive, safe community environment, promoting youth-led efforts for positive change, and cultivating future readiness in young leaders looking to grow individually and with those around them. Applications for CGTI 2026 are open March 1 – June 20, with varying rates. Scholarships are available for new Teams, and adults are not required to attend to send a Team or individual youth.
