Narcan Storage

Keeping it in the right place, makes a difference.

keep it in a place that avoids extreme temperatures or moisture

keep it in a place where it is accessible (first aid kits, car trunk, with AEDs)

know when the packet expires and prepare to replace them

Question

Narcan Administration

The Practice

Important Things to Consider

There are certain points you need to keep in mind about Narcan before we learn to give it.

Narcan administraion does NOT replace BLS assessment and CPR

Narcan lasts only 30-90 minutes

Multiple doses may be required

Opioids may stay in the blood for longer than 90 minutes

Individual will need at least 2 hours of observation after the last dose of Narcan

Narcan takes 2-3min to work

Steps to Administration

Practice

This will be a BLS team-based practice on a person found to be unresponsive.
Remember this...

Conclusions

  • There are initiatives to promote public access to Narcan and Education
  • Anyone can be trained to administer Narcan. Even kids.
  • Teach family, friends, your kids, and their friends.
  • 4 Arizonians die daily from an overdose
  • The leading cause of Unintentional Death
  • 65.7% of them had a bystander who could have administered Narcan
  • American Natives are at higher risk

Public Access to Narcan and Education can save lives.

‘Narcan gives a person the opportunity to survive and live long enough to change.’
