Artemis ii:Humanity's journey back

to the moon

Artemis II had an expected disruption in communications with NASA for about 40 minutes because the moon blocked the radio signal.

Christina Koch is a mission specialist who once set the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. She spent almost a year living in space! She is also an electrical engineer and helped with the first all-female spacewalk. On Artemis II, she helps with experiments and mission tasks.

Reid Wiseman is a NASA astronaut and the commander of Artemis II. He previously lived and worked on the International Space Station, where he helped run science experiments in space. Before becoming an astronaut, he was a Navy pilot. He leads the crew and makes sure the mission runs safely.

Victor Glover is the pilot for Artemis II and a former Navy test pilot. He has already traveled to space and spent time on the International Space Station. He made history as the first Black astronaut to live on the space station for a long mission. On Artemis II, he helps fly the spacecraft.

Jeremy Hansen is an astronaut from Canada and represents the Canadian Space Agency. This will be his first trip to space! He used to be a fighter pilot and helps train other astronauts. On Artemis II, he supports the crew and helps carry out the mission.

Living and Working in Space

'"So we do have to eat our vegetables, even in space. But don't worry, they give us mac and cheese." -Christina Koch

"But sleeping here is actually sort of commical."-Reid Wiseman

Local Connection to Artemis II

Brian Brill

💡 Someone from our community helped make this mission possible📍 From Pottsville, PA🛰️ Worked on the Orion spacecraft🌕 Orion is used in Artemis II👩‍🚀 Helps astronauts travel safely to the Moon and back🚀 Space missions need engineers, not just astronauts👨‍🔧 You could have a job like this one day

The End

Planned for Early 2028

Artemis IV

👩‍🚀 Astronauts will travel to lunar orbit🌕 Two crew members land near the Moon’s South Pole 🧪 Spend about a week doing science experiments 🚀 Return to orbit and head back to Earth

Artemis II

👩‍🚀 First astronauts to travel this far since Apollo🌕 Fly around the Moon (no landing) 🚀 Test systems with a real crew onboard 🌍 Return safely to Earth

Artemis I

🚀 First test flight of the Orion spacecraft 🌍 No astronauts onboard 🌕 Traveled around the Moon and back ✅ Proved the spacecraft is safe for humans

Planned for late 2028

Artemis V

🚀 Will launch using NASA’s powerful SLS rocket 🌕 Another mission to land on the Moon 🏗️ Begin building a Moon base 📅 Start regular missions (about once per year)

What Happens to Your Body in Space?

⌚ Astronauts wore special wrist devices to track sleep and movement🧬 They collected saliva samples to study how space affects the immune system 🧫 Tiny “organ chips” containing living human cells will help scientists study microgravity and radiation 🧠 Astronauts also tracked their nutrition, thinking skills, and balance

Planned for 2027

Artemis III

🌕 Astronauts will land on the Moon🚶 First Moon landing in over 50 years 🧪 Explore and conduct science experiments

Artemis II Morning Playlist

How do you wake up in the morning? Astronauts use morning playlists. NASA released the Artemis II crew's playlist and said, "Each track was selected by the Moon crew, continuing a tradition that started more than 50 years ago."The list includes:

  • "Sleepyhead" by Young & Sick
  • "Green Light" by John Legend and André 3000
  • "In a Daydream" by Freddy Jones Band
  • "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan
  • "Working Class Heroes (Work)" by CeeLo Green
  • "Good Morning" by Mandisa and TobyMac
  • "Tokyo Drifting" by Glass Animals and Denzel Curry
  • "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie
  • "Lonesome Drifter" by Charley Crockett
