our misson, vision, & values

Dear Friends of the Hendricks County Community Foundation,

As we reflect on the remarkable year that was 2023, we are thrilled to share the significant impact and achievements of HCCF – made possible by our many generous donors and supporters. Throughout the year, we demonstrated our commitment to community leadership, donor service, and collaborative partnerships with local nonprofits and government entities. Our efforts have resulted in effective grantmaking of over $1.6 million and a host of other accomplishments that underscore the potential of HCCF to effect positive change. In 2023, we embarked on that demonstrate our dedication to enhancing the lives of those who live, work and play in Hendricks County:

letter from william Rhodehamel & TIMOTHY WHICKER

several inititives

These accomplishments demonstrate the tangible impact of HCCF and the collective efforts of our community. With total revenue surpassing $3.5 million, we were able to make impactful grants to support a diverse range of charitable initiatives, projects, and programs. Our endowed investments reached $20.7 million in total assets, further solidifying our financial foundation. Undoubtedly, one of the most exciting developments of the year was the launch of our fundraising campaign, “Stronger Together: Building a Better Community.” This initiative aims to raise $1.5 million for unrestricted endowment funds, supported by a generous $3 million grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc. With a remarkable $2 to $1 match, the campaign has the potential to generate a total impact of $4.5 million, amplifying our ability to address critical community needs.

Dear Friends of the Hendricks County Community Foundation,

In 2024, we:
  • Awarded over $200,000 in unrestricted grants to make Hendrics County better, like the grant to help launch the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in partnership with all six public libraries. Because of this initiative, thousands of local children now receive a free, age-appropriate book each month, igniting a lifelong love of reading.
  • Strengthened civic engagement through our Community Unity efforts, including distributing Voter Guides to every household in the county, hosting Meet the Candidates Forums, and expanding voter education resources. We also produced a Diversity Awareness Series to encourage meaningful public dialogue.
  • Completed a transformational $6.6 million investment in local nonprofits, concluding a three-year partnership with the Hendricks County Commissioners and Council to help distribute American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to organizations and improving lives across our community.

Dear Friends of the Hendricks County Community Foundation,

As we reflect on 2025, we do so with deep gratitude and a profound sense of pride in the community we serve. This past year was defined by meaningful milestones, expanded community engagement, and a shared commitment to building a stronger Hendricks County—together.

several inititives

Because of the support and trust of our donors, partners, and volunteers, the Hendricks County Community Foundation awarded more than $2.35 million in grants and scholarships in 2025. These investments supported organizations and initiatives that strengthen lives, address emerging needs, and expand opportunity across our county. More than financial support, they reflect the values and priorities of a community that consistently shows up for one another.

William Rhodehamel and Brad Riley

These milestones underscore the power of philanthropy in action – real people making a real difference. With total revenue surpassing $12.5 million and endowed investments growing to $30.8 million, HCCF is stronger than ever and positioned to serve our community for generations to come. At the heart of this work is our Stronger Together: Building a Better Community campaign. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we’ve already reached 45% of our $1.5 million goal – unlocking significant matching funds from Lilly Endowment. But time is running out. This unprecedented $3-to-$1 match opportunity ends in December 2025, and we need your help to maximize its impact. Every unrestricted dollar raised will be matched by three more, creating lasting resources that allow HCCF to respond to emerging needs, fund innovative solutions, and sustain vital programs that enhance life in Hendricks County. With less than a year left, now is the time to act and be part of this transformative effort. To our donors, volunteers, nonprofit partners, and community advocates – thank you. Your generosity fuels this work. Your support ensures that HCCF continues to be a trusted partner, aligning resources and empowering people to createlasting impact. Let’s keep building a better future together. Yours in philanthropy, William A. Rhodehamel Bradley L. Riley HCCF President & CEO HCCF Board Chair

One of the most significant achievements of the year was the successful completion of Stronger Together: Building a Better Community, our community-wide effort to strengthen unrestricted resources at HCCF. Hendricks County came together in an extraordinary way this year, with 195 donors providing more than 390 gifts ranging from $5 to $250,000. With the support of Lilly Endowment’s GIFT VIII matching grant, Stronger Together resulted in more than $4.5 million in total community impact, creating permanent resources that will serve Hendricks County for generations to come.

Stronger Together also inspired long-term commitments to our community’s future. In 2025, 14 new Family Legacy Funds were established, reflecting families’ decisions to make Hendricks County part of their legacy. These funds, along with other unrestricted resources, strengthen HCCF’s ability to respond flexibly, support effective nonprofits, and provide leadership as community needs and opportunities evolve.

Welcome Continued

2025 highlighted the many ways HCCF continues to serve as a convener, collaborator, and community partner. This year marked the launch of the Hendricks County Women’s Giving Circle, bringing together 174 women in collective philanthropy to support programs that strengthen women and families. We also hosted a Religious Diversity Series, creating space for dialogue, learning, and understanding among faith communities across the county. In addition, HCCF deepened its partnership with the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County, supporting efforts that enhance access to natural spaces and improve quality of life for residents across the community. Together, these efforts underscore what is possible when philanthropy is rooted in trust, collaboration, and shared purpose. At the heart of this work is stewardship—honoring donor intent, managing resources responsibly, and ensuring that today’s support creates lasting opportunity. We are grateful for the confidence our community places in HCCF and we remain deeply committed to earning that trust every day. To our donors, volunteers, nonprofit partners, and community leaders: thank you. Your support, your engagement, and your belief in Hendricks County make this work possible. We are honored to steward these resources and to work alongside you in building a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Yours in philanthropy, William A. Rhodehamel Timothy A. Whicker HCCF President & CEO HCCF Board Chair

I support the Hendricks County Community Foundation because I'm committed to investing in the heartbeat of our community. HCCF BOARD AND STAFF CELEBRATING COMPLETION OF LILLY MATCH

TOGETHER

STRONGER

LOCAL BUSINESS & HCCF TEAM UP TO HELP FAMILIES

When the Hendricks County Community Foundation launched Stronger Together, it was grounded in a simple belief: our community is strongest when we invest in it together. What followed was a powerful demonstration of that truth—one that will shape Hendricks County for generations. Stronger Together was made possible through Lilly Endowment’s GIFT VIII matching grant, which challenged our community to build permanent, unrestricted resources for local impact. While the match provided momentum, the heart of the campaign was always about people—neighbors, families, businesses, and friends choosing to invest in the place we call home. Over the course of the campaign, more than 390 gifts were made by 195 donors, with contributions ranging from $5 to $250,000. Some donors gave for the first time; others deepened long-standing relationships with HCCF. Together, these gifts unlocked matching funds and resulted in more than $4.5 million in total community impact, strengthening unrestricted resources that will serve Hendricks County now and far into the future.

At its core, Stronger Together strengthened unrestricted resources—among the most powerful tools a community foundation can steward. These funds allow HCCF to respond where the need is greatest, support effective local organizations, and provide leadership as new challenges and opportunities emerge. The campaign also inspired long-term commitments to the community’s future. Seventeen (fourteen in 2025) new Family Legacy Funds were established, creating permanent support for unrestricted grantmaking year after year. Because of this strengthened foundation, HCCF awarded $2.35 million in grants and scholarships in 2025 alone, supporting initiatives that strengthen lives and expand opportunity across the county. As the campaign concluded, one thing was clear: Stronger Together was never just a fundraising effort. It reflected the values that define Hendricks County—a willingness to show up for one another and a commitment to building a better future together. To every donor who participated, thank you. Hendricks County is stronger because of you—and the impact of Stronger Together will be felt for generations to come.

LITTLE RED DOOR FACILITY AND SERVICE AREAS

GRANTS

LITTLERED DOOR

It seems that nearly every family is affected by cancer at some point, which is why, in 2025, HCCF awarded a $2,500 Community Impact Grant to the Little Red Door Cancer Services Agency (LRD). These grant dollars are dedicated to supporting Hendricks County residents currently undergoing cancer treatments, ensuring that the physical and financial burdens of a diagnosis do not stand in the way of recovery and quality of life. Little Red Door offers a “wrap-around” approach to care, providing services free of charge to uninsured and underserved individuals. The grant from HCCF specifically funds two of the agency’s most critical programs: Rides of Hope and nutritional support. By providing reliable transportation to treatment centers and coordinating home deliveries of high-protein supplements like Boost, LRD removes the logistical hurdles that often stand in the way of life-saving medical appointments. These services have reached 88 local residents—including seven children—in the last year alone. Over the past eight years, the Community Foundation has awarded more than $58,000 through Community Impact grants and ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds to support Little Red Door’s work. For neighbors like Mary, who is currently undergoing treatment for Stage IV colon cancer, these services provide more than just practical help. Cancer treatment is exhausting, both physically and emotionally, and the challenges extend far beyond the hospital walls.

Through HCCF’s investment, Mary receives the transportation she needs to ensure she never misses an appointment and the nutritional support required to maintain her strength. On days when energy is scarce and the road ahead feels overwhelming, these services provide more than practical aid—they turn a lonely struggle into a shared journey of hope. This vital work is only possible through the generosity of donors who contribute to unrestricted funds. Currently, the Stronger Together Campaign offers a unique opportunity to triple your impact: any gift made to a Family Legacy Fund or an unrestricted fund at HCCF will be matched $2 to $1. This means your contribution goes three times as far in meeting needs in our community, like ensuring no one in Hendricks County has to face a cancer journey alone. To learn more about creating a lasting legacy or starting a Family Legacy Fund, please contact William Rhodehamel at william@hendrickscountycf.org.

“We are both grateful and humbled by the support from our friends at the Hendricks County Community Foundation. Because of their continued investment, we have been able to make the most of life and the least of cancer for more friends and neighbors throughout Hendricks County — of all ages. We are so proud to be partners. Without this critical support, we could not provide these life-changing and life-saving services for Hendricks County residents during their darkest days.”

INCREASING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

2025 MEMBERS OF THE WOMEN’S GIVING CIRCLE

WOMEN'S

GIVING CIRCLE

In 2025, HCCF was proud to launch the very first giving circle in Hendricks County, bringing together a group of passionate women to pool their resources to meet needs in the community. The Hendricks County Women’s Giving Circle (HCWGC) allows members to achieve a much larger impact than they ever could alone, turning individual gifts into significant support for our local nonprofits. In its inaugural year, 174 women joined the HCWGC to fuel $45,000 in grants awarded to local nonprofits serving women and children. Through a formal application process, members reviewed requests and voted at quarterly meetings to determine which organizations would receive the awards. 2025 Grant Recipients - The following nine organizations were selected to receive funding:

HCCF continued our support of the VoteHC.org website which provided up-to-date information on the elections, housed our voter education video series, and an online version of the Voter Guide. And finally, we printed banners for Hendricks County high schools to encourage new voters to “Register to Vote.” No matter how Hendricks County votes, it’s important to understand how elections work, who you are voting for, and to make your voice heard. TEAMING UP

SHELTERING WINGS

YOUR INVESTMENT, THEIR LIFETIME:

THE POWER OF DESIGNATED FUNDS

COUNTY

Designated funds at community foundations are one of the most meaningful ways donors can strengthen the organizations they love—now and forever. These funds allow donors to select a nonprofit they care about while the community foundation manages the investment, stewards the assets, and ensures annual support continues exactly as the donor intended. A single decision becomes an enduring source of stability for nonprofits across Hendricks County. At HCCF, designated funds collectively generate nearly $200,000 in grants each year, benefiting more than 90 nonprofits. That steady support helps organizations plan confidently, grow their services, and remain resilient in changing economic conditions. You can see the impact throughout the county. A designated fund helps maintain Avon’s World War II Memorial Park, preserving local history. Another keeps Brownsburg Little League Baseball vibrant by supporting equipment and coaching for young athletes. In Coatesville, another designated fund supports the Coatesville-Clay Township Public Library, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of community life, while another fund fuels leadership development for Danville High School students at Leadership Hendricks County, helping teens build confidence and a sense of purpose.

Designated support keeps creativity alive through arts programming at Plainfield High School, and it enriches childhood learning at North Salem Elementary School, where classroom resources often need a boost. Donors also help protect vulnerable families: one fund sustains Sheltering Wing’s children’s programming, offering stability and care during times of crisis. And looking beyond county lines, another fund supports Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, helping ensure exceptional medical care for kids across the region. Together, these stories show how designated funds can uplift local history, youth programs, rural communities, the arts, education, basic needs, and major regional institutions. Each fund, large or small, reflects a donor’s values and makes a meaningful, lasting difference. For donors, a designated fund offers peace of mind. It ensures that the organizations they cherish will continue receiving reliable support, are managed with professionalism, and protected well into the future. If there is a nonprofit that holds a special place in your heart, now is a wonderful time to consider creating a designated fund. We would be honored to help you craft a lasting legacy that strengthens our community for generations to come. Contact William Rhodehamel at william@hendrickscountycf.org.
