Reading

The Plan...

Reading

To improve reading scores, the Head of School and educator-leaders have to collaboratively improve the current structure and systems of instruction, frequently monitor progress and build educator capacity.

  • Invest in curriculum for Second grade. Historically this is where our achievement drops.
  • Reading comprehension, convention skills, writing and vocabulary are curated by teachers. Set norms for instructional planning and practices in these areas.
  • Build educator capacity with systematic professional learning approach.
  • Provide pacing goals and implement backward design.
  • Put unpacking text not answering multiple choice question at center. Make close reading practices the norm.
  • Administer common assessments every 3 weeks to monitor progress.
  • Structure small group and Gryphon Time.
  • Integrate reading into Social Studies and Science
