Data Collection

During this stage you will teach your students the strategies for identifying the main idea in a text. You will read SRA practice texts as students follow along, and then answer the multiple-choice questions.

Multi-Sensory instruction is the essential first-step to familiarize and make the concept of Main Idea tangible for your students. You will complete 2 or more multi-sensory activities with your class, depending on their level of need.

Graphic Organizers will serve as a guide for your students as they begin identifying the main idea in texts. During this stage, you will transition from teacher-led instruction to independent practice.

At the beginning of the unit you will give a pre-test to determine the appropriate practice text for your group of students. After completing instruction, you will administer the posttest to determine whether students are ready to progress or need reteaching.
