  • Depth of knowledge in field – central ideas or topics in a discipline (internal authenticity)
  • Connectedness to world beyond the classroom – connected to students’ worlds (external authenticity)
  • Substantive conversation – talking to learn and deeply understand a topic
  • Social support for student achievement – collaboration, high expectations, support for risk, and offering all students opportunity and access to curriculum

DO:

DO NOT:

TELL without SHOWING: Do not describe your assessment to me without showing the student-facing document(s). This will not meet project requirements. Do not include your assessment in your lesson plan. There are 3 separate lesson plans PLUS an assessment. Do not use a previously-created assessment. Do not forget to ensure your assessment is authentic.

SHOW NOT TELL: Link or include in the plan a STUDENT FACING DOCUMENT. Additional context is welcome but not required. If the assessment needs more information, include context. Create your assessment yourself.
