1.WE USE THE PAST SIMPLE TO:
Talk about the things we did in the past
- We travelled to Japan last year.
- She didn't play hockey.
- You closed the door yesterday.
- They didn't go to school.
2. The past form of verb “To Be”
Verb to be (present)
Verb to be (past)
I was, (jo era) You were, (tú eres) He, She, It was, (ell, ella era) We were, (Nosaltres érem) You were, (vosaltres éreu) They were, (ells eren)
I am, (jo sóc) You are, (tú ets) He, She, It is,( ell / ella és) We are, (nosaltres som) You are, (vosaltres sou) They are, (ells són)
3. SPELLING RULES Regular Verbs We usually add -ed to the infinitive
Verbs finishing with -e: add -d
Verbs finishing “consonant +y”: change to “-ied”
Verbs finishing “consonant +vowel + consonant: Double final consonant and add -ed”
“TO DO” = “DID”

- He visits his grandparents. He visited his grandparents last weekend.
- She listens to music. She listened to music yesterday.
- We stay in a hotel. We stayed in a hotel last summer.
- They study at university together. They studied at university together in 2010.
4. THE STRUCTURE Negative sentences
- I don’t play basketball on Saturdays. I didn’t play basketball last Saturday.
- You don’t watch TV at home. You didn’t watch TV at home last night.
- He doesn’t visit his grandparents. He didn’t visit his grandparents last weekend.
- She doesn’t listen to music. She didn’t listen to music yesterday.
- We don’t stay in a hotel. We didn’t stay in a hotel last summer.
- They don’t study at university. They didn’t study at university.
