On December 3, 1844, the feast day of St. Francis Xavier, Father Gautrelet invited his students and professors to be missionaries by simply offering to God everything they were doing; he called thispractice an “apostleship of prayer”.

Apostleship of Prayer (AP) was official established with Fr. Henri Ramiere as the director.

As a response to Pope Pius IX’s request assistance, Father Cross called on the youth to support the Pope with their prayers. These first young people were known as “Crusaders.”

Pope Pius X released the Quam Singulari decree that allowed children to receive Holy Communion at the age of reason.

Pope Leo XIII included a monthly intention for AP members during the morning offering.

The Eucharistic Crusade (Nghĩa Binh Thánh Thể) in Vietnam was established by the Sulpicians (Society of the Priests of Saint Sulpice).

The name “Eucharistic Youth Movement” was officially recognized by the Bishops’ Conference of France.

The Eucharistic Crusade was renamed the Eucharistic Youth Movement (Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể) in the Bylaws signed in December 1964 and was implemented in 1965.

VEYM was officially established in the USA.

After the Fall of Saigon in 1975, many Vietnamese fled the country and immigrated to different countries, bringing the Eucharistic Youth Movement with them.

To educate and train youth in becoming complete persons as well as virtuous Christians.a. Complete person in body, mind, and spirit. b. Perfect Christian who understands catechism, practices virtues, lives the Catholic faith, and have a right conscience.
To organize and guide all youth in spreading the Gospel and to actively be involved in working for the good of society through charitable services and helping others.
