the

problem

Today’s workforce isn’t yesterday’s workforce.

What we know:

Full-time, long-term employment is declining. 50% of U.S. workforce projected to be freelance by 2027. Remote work is the new norm—but it’s isolating. Loneliness is a global epidemic; 58% of U.S. adults are lonely. *

macy.

So, I implemented unconventional company policies at my company like no meetings before 10 am, take off when you want, and make your own schedule. Challenging these corporate norms became more than just fun company perks, it became a critcal part of how I wanted to work for the rest of my career. When I was nominated as a fellow a Women’s Entrepreneurship Collective in New York City, I ended up finding a work-home through the concept of what we all know as “co-working” spaces. I found a collective of professionals who felt the same about work as I did. I found a few more “co-working homes” over the years. Some with more perks than others, all with their unique identity. Through these experiences, I learned what makes these co-working spaces magical was the element of community, comfort, support, and fun. All things that are inherently anti-corporate. I learned that most think corporate culture sucks. 97% of people prefer remote or hybrid work. Nearly 40% of people are doing some sort of gig work and more and more are building businesses each day without a community to help them along the way. In fact, about one-third of us are just lonely. People are craving community and a flexible third space that doesn’t make them feel drained for 40+ hours a week; not counting the 5 hours of Sunday Scaries before doing it all again on Monday. In the midst of deep shower thoughts and contemplating a career change, the concept of OOO came to mind. This may not be your story, but if there’s even a small piece of you that has ever wanted to challenge the status quo that is work culture, there’s a seat at the table for you at OOO.

Hi, I’m Macy. If you had to put me in a neat little box, I’d be identified as an award-winning publicity expert, entrepreneur and creative director. When I started my career, I wanted the big corner office so I could ultimately close the door, not talk to anyone and get paid to “create stuff.” Like many millennials, I fed into the boss babe fantasy not realizing that it was just a rebranded version of “climbing the corporate ladder,” without health benefits or PTO. I went with it. Today I can say that I’ve built a stand out resume and I’ve gained respect in my industry. I did the celebrity campaigns, landed the Fortune 500 partnerships, advised powerful CEOs, curated some of the best NYC experiences and made a real impact in social cause areas I care about. I had the 6-figure job and owned the 6-figure business. But in typical “grind or die” fashion, I also burnt out more times that I’d like to admit. I realized pretty early on, the shackles of corporate America weren’t for me. By this time, I created my second creative agency with a mission to amplify underrepresented voices and build authentic brand stories. More importantly, I wanted going to work to not suck. The politics of being in the office, the isolation of WFH, the hustle, the commute at the ass crack of dawn were all sucky and suffocating.

It’s for the people who know the old way isn’t coming back and are bold enough to build what comes next
