Today we talk about the past continuous. The past continuous is used when we have to talk about an action that was in progress in a particular moment of the past.
Past continuous V.S simple past
The past continuous is associated with the simple past when we describe An action that has been prolonged for a period in the past and that was stopped by a little action. The long action is the PAST CONTINUOUS and the little is SIMPLE PAST

PAST CONTINUOUS:1.At the 11.30 i was watching TV.2.This time yesterday i was flying to London. PAST CONTINUOUS V.S SIMPLE PAST: 1.I was cooking last night, when the telephone rang. 2.I saw her in the library yesterday, she was reading a book.
Building of the verbs
The PAST CONTINUOUS is a verbal time that use the auxiliary "to be" at the SIMPLE PAST and the verb in the -ing form.
