Gutzon Borglum
Mount Rushmore was created between 1927 and 1941. The project was led by the sculptor Gutzon Borglum. First, workers used dynamite to remove large parts of the rock. Then, they used drills and special tools to carve the faces in detail. About 400 workers helped build the monument. The work was very difficult and dangerous, but no one died during the construction.
The project took many years to complete
