π‘ What is a Main Idea?
EXAMPLE
Main Idea: The most important point the author wants you to know.
Text: "Penguins are amazing swimmers. They dive deep into the ocean. They can hold their breath for a long time. They use their flippers to move fast."
π΅ Main Idea: Penguins are excellent swimmers.
π Details: dive deep, hold breath, use flippers
β It's the BIG idea β not the small details!
π Summarizing
EXAMPLE
Original Text:
"Butterflies go through four stages of life. The mother lays eggs. Eggs hatch into caterpillars. They eat and grow. Finally, they become butterflies."
Summary:
"Butterflies have four life stages: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly."
Summary: A short version of the text in your own words.
A good summary...
