  • Packaging
  • Expectations

Presses

  • We have two different types of presses.
  • Automatic – which the press automatically restarts the processing cycle or after it produce a part it starts producing another automatically.
  • Manual – which means either you will have to open and close the door for the press to start producing another part or you may have to put the part on a fixture to cool. You must not walk away from a manual press unless someone is there to cover you.

Next

In this picture you see one of our bigger presses. There are a total of 20 presses.

    • If there is an issue with the press it will begin to alarm. Most presses are equipped with a red light for a visual signal as well. If your machine begins to alarm you are to locate a process tech and make them aware.

Some presses can be modified slightly. Like here you see a conveyor belt is placed below the chute.

        Next

This is the Emergency stop button. This should NEVER be pushed unless it is an emergency. For example a fire.

        Auxiliary Equipment

        • Grinders
        • Dryers

        Next

Here are some of the several different dryers / hoppers we have. The hopper holds the material the dryer dries the material.

        Next

Material is put into the hopper at the top.

        Next

These hoses go to the dryer and circulate air to the material.

        NEXT

        Next

Hopper window. This allows you see the material in the hopper. DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR!

        NEXT

        Next

A hose gets connected here to supply material to the press. Then our loading system pulls the material into the press.

        Next

Drying your material to run thru the press

        • Most material we use will have to be dried before going thru the press. Some materials will not require drying and will be loaded directly from the container or a hopper.
        • You will load material into the hopper. The drier attached will dry the material. It is important to keep your hopper filled so the material is allowed time to dry before going thru the press or so your press does not run out of material.
        • Make certain you have the correct material at the press before filling the hopper.
        • It is necessary to check your hopper at the beginning of your shift then every hour after and at the end of your shift.

You will be using grinders to grind up runners and bad parts. We call this regrind. The regrind goes into the bin at the bottom of the machine. You will empty the bin into a container for the regrind to be used later.

Bad parts or runners are put into the chute. They drop down to the blades that are at the bottom of the chute.

You do not want to overload the grinder. If you do the grinder will make a load squealing sound. You have to hit the emergency stop button and call a process tech over.

        Material for your press

        • You will always be using Material when running a press. Here are some of the materials you will work with
        • Resin (we refer to this as material)
        • Components such as Steel shaft, Inserts or springs.

        Next

Material can be issued to the press in a few different containers…

        Barrel

        Bag(s)

        Gaylord

        Next

        Packaging

We use several different packaging supplies…

        • Boxes and gaylords, bags, chipboard and foam. Our boxes are identified by a number which is stamped on the bottom of each.
        • To know how you should be packaging your parts you will refer to the packaging portion at the bottom of your operator instructions.
        • The most commonly used boxes are staged in two different locations. Outside the restrooms and at the beginning of the materials area.
        • Our gaylords are stored in a rack system which you will be shown during your tour.
        • Other packaging such as bags, foam or chipboard will be issued upon request.
        • Tape the bottom of the box for your parts. When you bring the box to your pallet fold the top down, do not tape it closed unless otherwise advised.

        • Check the production board to see what your job(s) are for the day.
        • No cell phones
        • When you arrive at your press
        • Confirm you have up to date operator instructions.
        • Verify you have the correct packaging materials needed. Make up at least 5 boxes.
        • Verify you have the correct material needed for your press and you have enough. If you don’t make a process tech aware.
        • Make sure you have all gauges needed per your operator instructions. If any are not at the podium make a process tech aware.
        • Ask previous operator about any issues or concerns.

        EXPECTATIONS

        During your shift

        1. Fill your dryer every hour.
        2. Complete your operator instructions and scheduled checks.
        3. Watch for defective parts. Notify a process tech Immediately if a defect is discovered.
        4. Bring full boxes to the pallet at the end of your press.
        5. There must not be combined parts on one pallet. For example parts running on Press 1 & 2 can not go on the same pallet. Each press must have its own pallet.
        6. General housekeeping
        7. Verify you have been given the correct material against Operator Instruction, Material container, dryer/hopper and grinder.
        8. You have two 10 minute and one 30 minute lunch break. Return from your breaks on time.
