Review of
Present Tense verb Conjugation
Start
Paso a paso (step by step)
start with verb infinitive
Add ending
Drop off -AR, -ER, or -IR endings
The important thing is that the ending matches the correct person. (Ending tells us who is speaking so subject pronoun is just "extra" information in Spanish.
The "to" is inside verb "to eat, to live, to speak so we need to change it according to who is speaking (the subject pronoun)
To get to stem of verb
Take off the AR, ER, IR of the verb infinitive
This leaves us with the stem HABL-
Hablar
This leaves us with the stem COM-
Comer
This leaves us with the stem VIV-
Vivir
Table of Present Tense Endings
Depending on the verb type and the subject pronoun (I, you, he/she, we, they) , you add back the correct verb endings after you have removed the -AR, -ER, or -IR from the verb infinitive. I speak = yo hablo You eat = tú comes We live= nosotros vivimos
Now you try:
Nice Job!
Yo (I) - add back "o" Tú (you)-add back "as" Él/ ella/ usted (he/she/you (formal) add back "a" Nosotros (we)-add back "amos" Ellos / ellas, ustedes (they/ you all)- add back "an"
There are only 3 types of verbs -AR, -ER or -IR verbs ex. hablar (to speak), comer (to eat), vivir (to live) that can be changed in many different tenses like present tense.
Take off ending (not just the "R"...needs to be both letters- "AR", "ER" or "IR" ) ex. hablar = habl (stem)
