Concept Design
My Concept design originally for this Tome Project was to make a mermaid themed spell book
New Concept
The library of Atlantis
My new concept idea for the Tome Project is a book that you would discover in the lost city of Atlantis. This book now incorporates preserved sea life, highlighting an octopus. This enhances its authenticity and provides a tangible connection to the oceanic world of Atlantis, making it an artifact for explorers and historians.
How It's Built
+ Things That Went Wrong
To build the Tome, I cut the foam block in half, carved out a book shape, and covered it in plaster. I then built an octopus out of the oven-bake clay, painted the first coat white so the colors would pop and then decided to paint it pink, then realised I didn't like how it looked and painted over it with blue, and then I made it look glossy by going over it with clear gel nail polish. Lastly I decorated it with a sheer blue fabric, a shower sponge, lace, pearls, and sea shells.
Self Evaluation
I would rate my Tome a 7.5/10. I believe that I did the best of my ability in creating something both skillful and aesthetically pleasing. Although I do wish that I had planned it out a bit more on paper rather than in my head, so some of the things bought (the shells) weren't wasted on just two things or weren't used at all in this project. I also wish I created a title for this piece, but I just didn't want to until I put this presentation together.
The End!
