Plainclothes officers raided her apartment in the early morning with a search warrant related to her ex-boyfriend, who wasn't even there. Upon hearing the break-in, Breonna and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, thought they were criminals; Walker fired a warning shot (with a legal weapon), wounding an officer in the leg. The police responded with 32 shots, fatally hitting Breonna, who was unarmed.
