Module 1: Welcome!

Welcome to Nao Now!

Welcome to the Nao Now mentor community.

At Nao Now, we help children worldwide build confidence speaking English through conversation, mentorship, and engaging topics.

Our lessons help students:

  • Speak confidently
  • Think critically
  • Share ideas with the world

As a mentor, you make this possible.

Module 1: Welcome!

Why Your Role Matters

Every Nao Now lesson is more than an English class. For many students, it may be their first real conversation with someone from another country.

Your encouragement helps them:

Speak when they feel shy

Share ideas they were afraid to say

Build confidence that lasts beyond the classroom

Mentors don’t just teach English. They help students discover their voice

Module 1: Welcome!

The Mentor Journey at Nao Now

Mentor Success

Strong relationships lead to a stable schedule and long-term students.

Weekly Schedule

Most students book lessons weekly with the same mentor.

Regular Student

You begin building a personal relationship.

Long-Term Students

Nao Now focuses on long-term mentorship, not constantly rotating students

Trial Lesson

First impression for the student and parent.

Nao Now is built on mentorship, not one-time tutoring.

The Importance of Mentorship

WHY

WHAT

HOW

How to Create That Connection

It Drives Everything

Build a Real Connection

  • Start with simple, friendly chit-chat (name, interests, feelings)
  • React with energy, encouragement, and curiosity
  • Ask follow-up questions (not just “correct” answers)
  • Use their ideas in the lesson
  • Smile, use their name often, and be expressive
  • Go beyond teaching the lesson
  • Make each child feel seen, heard, and valued
  • Be someone they are excited to see each week
  • Kids speak more when they feel comfortable
  • Confidence grows through trust
  • Students return because of YOU—not just the lesson

Module 2: Mentorship

Why this Matters

You bring energy & fun

Not Just a Video Call

Unlike platforms like Zoom or Google Meet, the Nao Now classroom is built specifically for online tutoring lessons. It is designed to be:

built for learning activities

interactive

kid-friendly

Students should actively participate, not just watch or listen.

Best used for

Always use the Co-Browser whenever possible. It allows the student to actively participate, making lessons much more engaging.

Module 7: Nao Now Video Classroom Platform

When to Use Screen Share

Use Screen Share only when the Co-Browser cannot load the content or is not working properly.

Screen share should be used as a backup tool.

During screen share:

the mentor controls everything

the student cannot interact

the lesson becomes more passive

Module 7: Nao Now Video Classroom Platform

Preparing Your Classroom

enter the classroom a few minutes early

Before each lesson:

test microphone and camera

check internet connection

close unnecessary browser tabs

prepare lesson materials in advance

Helpful Tip:

Each student has their own classroom space where lesson materials, whiteboards, and notes remain saved for future lessons. This allows mentors to continue lessons where they left off.

Module 7: Nao Now Video Classroom Platform

Troubleshooting Technical Issues

If something is not working:

  1. Open Settings → Device Setup OR Settings → Device Setup
  2. Check microphone and camera permissions
  3. If needed, refresh your browser or rejoin the classroom
  4. If the Co-Browser isn’t loading properly, switch to Screen Share

The platform may show alerts if there are connection or device issues for you or the student, helping you quickly identify and resolve the problem.

Entering the classroom early helps mentors solve most technical issues before the student arrives

Module 7: Nao Now Video Classroom Platform

Technology Expectations

Mentors should:

arrive early

troubleshoot basic issues

have stable internet

test audio/video before class

Module 8:

Nao Now Levels

Module 8: Nao Now Levels

Understanding Nao Now Levels

Each student at Nao Now is assigned a lesson level based on their speaking, reading, and comprehension ability. Teaching at the correct level is very important because it helps students feel successful, comfortable, and motivated to continue.

Mentors should only teach lessons that match the student’s assigned level.

The right level helps students grow with confidence.

A lesson that is too easy can make a student lose interest.

A lesson that is too hard can make a student feel overwhelmed.

Module 8: Nao Now Levels

What If a Student Seems Ready for Another Level?

Sometimes a student may seem ready to move up. When this happens, mentors should not simply begin teaching higher-level lessons on their own.

Level changes should be based on a proper level test, not an informal guess during class.

Instead:

complete the assigned lesson as appropriate

note your observation in feedback

recommend a level test

submit level result

Module 8: Nao Now Levels

Level Test Process

If a student may be ready for another level:

the parent may schedule a level test using a credit the mentor conducts the level test the mentor decides whether the student is ready to move up or should remain at the current level the mentor submits the result through feedback

Do not independently switch the student into a different level without the level test process being completed.

What to do next:

Module 9: Essential Tech Literacy

Check Student History

Module 9: Essential Tech Literacy

Leading Mode & Request Help

Request Help: If issues persist after basic troubleshooting, click Request Help and fill out the form. An admin member may join the class to assist.

Leading Mode: Mentors must ensure that Leading Mode is toggled ON before starting the class. This keeps students synced with the same tabs and materials the mentor is using in the cobrowser. If turned OFF, students can freely switch tabs on their end and may not see the same materials being shared. To enable:

  • Click the crown icon beside the timer
  • Toggle Leading Mode ON

Module 10:
