A dilemma
What is a dilemma?
Can you imagine if your parents made you pay back all the money they spent raising you? You would probably be mad! This is what happened to the colonists in early America. Great Britain wanted the colonists to pay back money Britain had spent protecting the colonies from France. They started taxing Americans.
The colonists were very upset about these new taxes. The people felt they already had worked very hard to support the war with France. They had a dilemma. A dilemma is a conflict or problem where you must choose between two plans. The colonists could either pay the taxes against their wishes, or they could ask Britain to not tax them. They decided to not pay their taxes! This led to the American Revolution.
