Welcome families! This biome, we have been working on some exciting projects that we would love to share with you!

Literacy-L6 We became journalists and storytellers, exploring stories from Japan. We created our own magazines to showcase our stories!
Literacy-L7 We explored point of view, characters, setting, and themes to develop and organise our ideas effectively. We told stories through dialogue, resulting in thoughtful, well-crafted pieces that will reflect both our creativity and strong analytical thinking.
Literacy-L8 This biome, we examined how authors use symbolism, figurative language and descriptive techniques to create deeper meaning in texts. We developed reading, inference and writing skills, comparing ideas across texts. As a final outcome, we turned our ideas into a magazine.
Maths-L6 We deepened our understanding of fractions and decimals using different measurements and real life situations based in Japan, such as money, food and more.
Maths-L7 We explored fractions, decimals, percentages, and real-life problem solving all while travelling through Japan!
Maths-L8 This biome, we have learned about fractions, decimals and percentages. We have practised adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions, including mixed numbers, and explored how fractions can be converted into decimals and percentages. We also learned how to calculate percentages of amounts and solve real-life problems using these skills.
Science We explored how plants and animals survive in different environments and how survival was due to adaptations and evolution. We explained how evolution works and adaptations occur.
Social Science We learned about the Renaissance, as well as key figures in history such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Columbus and Galileo and more.
Art Students learned about symbolism and colour theory in art. Drawing inspiration from Western and non-Western art, they made 3D masks with symbolic elements and colours.

Here are Some Examples of Our Masks
SEL This biome, we learned about universal and public information symbols and how they help people communicate without using words. We discovered how symbols helped people stay safe, find places, and understand information all around the world. We also learned that symbols can look different in different countries and cultures. For our final project, each student explored a country of their choice. They showed their learning by researching the signs and symbols used in that country, chose one symbol to redesign, and explained the meaning of each sign.
Drama We explored Japanese drama and culture. We performed, created, and reflected on stories, learning how drama shows history, values, and social ideas.
