Binary

Binary is important because it is essential on hardware, communication between devices, process speed etc. Binary is the universal and native language for computers and digital devices. It uses two states only to represent sophisticated data (--0 and 1--).Example of binary: Erica Mook > 01000101 01110010 01101001 01100011 01100001 00100000 01001101 01101111 01101111 01101011 Example of translating binary to hexadecimal > 45 72 69 63 61 20 4D 6F 6F 6B

  • Why do we still use binary numbers in modern day computers? >

ROM - the fixed foundation, always there (like a set recipe).

RAM - the messy in between, real time memory.

Flash Memory- saved and stored for later use.
Memory affects how computers work as a unit. Without the three of these working together, your computer would be slow, unreliable, or might not even start.

ASCII and Unicode

ASCII - small flashcard set (only English letters, numbers, and basic symbols. EX: A = 65, 0 = 48" Unicode - universal dictionary (includes all languages, accents, and even emojis)

What did we learn?

Which statement best describes RAM, ROM, and Flash memory? a) RAM is permanent, ROM is temporary, Flash is volatile. b) RAM is temporary, ROM is permanent, Flash is storage kept for later. c) RAM is storage, ROM is multitasking, Flash is instructions.
What happens if a computer has very little RAM? a) It runs faster than normal b) It can multitask smoothly c) Programs and tabs may lag or crash
How does Unicode differ from ASCII? a) Unicode can represent all languages and emojis b) Unicode is smaller than ASCII c) Unicode only works for English letters
What is the binary equivalent of the decimal number 5? a) 011 b) 101 c) 110

Conclusions

Memory, binary, and character codes all work together to make computers run. RAM handles active tasks, ROM provides permanent instructions, flash stores data for later, and ASCII and Unicode let computers understand letters, symbols, and even emojis. When these pieces work together, computers can think, store, and perform smoothly.
