First conditional & Future time clauses
First conditional: if + present simple, will/won't + infinitive
"If you work hard, you'll pass your exams" "The teacher won't be very pleased if we are late for class!
We use first conditional sentences to talk about a possible/probable situation and its consequence.
We use the PRESENT TENSE (not the future) after IF in first conditional sentences: If you will work hard, you'll pass your exams ( wrong!!!) If you work hard..... We can also use an IMPERATIVE instead of the Will clause: If you have time come and see us next week We can use UNLESS+ PRESENT SIMPLE + instead of if...not in conditional sentences: Alison won't get into university if she doesn't get good grades. or Alison won't get to university unless she gets good grades.
Future time clauses
We use the present tense (not the future) after when, once, as soon as, until, before, and after to talk about the future. Structure: Time word + present simple, will + base verb Examples: I will call you when I arrive. She will start cooking after he gets home. We will leave as soon as the movie ends. I will wait until you come back.
Warning ❌ When I will arrive, I will call you. ✅ When I arrive, I will call you.
First Conditional Future Clauses Talks about a condition Talks about time Uses if or unless Uses when, after, before, as soon as, until, etc. Something may or may not happen Something is likely or expected to happen.
