Fresh Markets: Where Community Bonds are Forged

Link began revitalising its markets in 2010. Inspired by successful markets overseas and integrated with Hong Kong’s traditional wet market advantages, Link redesigned the stalls at its 52 fresh markets and added modern features like electronic payment systems for today’s shoppers. Link Fresh Markets emerged to become community hubs again. The exhibition area features a miniature model of Link’s Fresh Market. Visitors can use augmented reality (AR) filters to decode various elements of Link’s market transformation.

Smart Flood Detection

Climate Data Assessment Weather changes are tracked by advanced climate monitoring systems. This allows for constant review of the impact of tropical cyclones and floods on properties, and for timely measures to be taken. IoT Flood Monitoring Sensors and IoT flood detection systems provide 24/7 real-time monitoring of potential flood risks. Property managers receive prompts on water level changes, enabling them to prevent issues like short circuits, power outages, or severe accidents. Enhancing Capabilities While high-performance flood barriers and rain gates prevent floods by efficiently managing water flow and reducing pressure on drainage, regular training and drills enhance staff’s emergency response capabilities. Extending the Coverage IoT sensors not only provide crucial flood monitoring during storms but also monitor water leakage on a daily basis. The system has been extended to cover more than 10 Link properties in Hong Kong, enhancing the preparedness of the respective teams.

AI Energy Management System As part of its commitment to Net Zero carbon emissions by 2035, Link has introduced AI-powered Energy Management System (EMS) in 54 of its properties. Smart Monitoring & Energy Optimisation By monitoring environmental conditions, the EMS adjusts indoor temperatures, to maintain comfort while optimising energy usage. It can also detect equipment anomalies in real-time, allowing timely rectification and preventing potential losses. Solar Power As Hong Kong’s leading private solar power operator, Link has installed 58 solar power systems across 53 of its properties, generating approximately 4.2 million kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of 1,273 three-member households per year.

Link Together Initiatives

Every year, Link contributes up to 0.25% of its net property income from the previous financial year to Link Together Initiatives. Since its establishment in 2013, the programme has committed $158 million in supporting more than 190 community service projects, benefitting more than 18 million people. Since October 2020, Link Together Initiatives has been funding Environmental Association’s Nature LINK project to set up butterfly gardens in the outdoor spaces of 10 of Link’s shopping malls, where butterfly-friendly plants form butterfly habitats to develop ecological hotspots in the long run. Resident volunteers maintain the gardens, where a total of 41 butterfly species have been recorded. With the enhancement of the ecological network, we hope to see more biodiversity within urban areas.

Gallery – A City Reimagined

Urban development integrates both art and science, along with a dose of imagination to break through the mold and embrace the new. This art gallery features three contemporary artists and their interpretation of “Future City”, by using different art mediums. Emily Allchurch, an artist from the UK, uses digital collages to depict the city’s dynamism while local artists Michelle Fung and Mimi Luk use prints and papercutting respectively to showcase their unique perspectives. These works evoke reflections about the value and meaning of the symbiotic relationship between individuals and their community, while sparking inspiration for a more inclusive, diverse and creative community in the future.

Asset Transformation Showcases

Communities are the building blocks of society, each having distinct characteristics. With the quality of life affected by ageing facilities, Link revitalises assets through “Asset Enhancement” projects. By integrating refurbishment, space reconfiguration, sustainability upgrades, an enriched tenant mix and placemaking, we strive to create a “15-Minute City”. Link has completed 103 asset enhancement projects to date, 100 of which span 15 districts in Hong Kong. While each project is tailored to the specific geographical features and community needs of its area, Link adheres to the following core principles: • Aesthetics: Beautifying spaces and integrating art• Interaction: Fostering connections to create vibrant community hubs• People Centricity: Engaging residents and tenants to address their needs

Link: 20 Years Together

Emily Allchurch

Emily Allchurch visited and extensively photographed Link sites and their surrounding locations in Hong Kong in November 2024 during her creation of Link: 20 Years Together. The artwork has been meticulously assembled as a digital collage from the thousands of photographs she took. The composition presents a colourful, verdant and dynamic ‘hill town’, made up of 12 iconic place-making projects, as well as nearby local landmarks, with sweeping roads and bridges joining this constructed conurbation to the landscape around it. Framed by trees, residential housing, and the mountainous backdrop of Lion Rock, Kowloon Peak and High Junk Peak, the scene is bustling with people going about their daily lives and interacting with the built environment.

Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre In addition to a variety of restaurants and shops, the well-connected Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre is also connected to two major fresh markets, providing plenty of choices for everyone’s daily needs. After a complete rejuvenation, the 80,000 square feet outdoor event space spans two floors and includes a striking-looking basketball court, a sky garden, a butterfly garden and an open-air plaza - all waiting for you to explore!

20 Years of Walking Together

Over the past 20 years, Link has grown alongside the people of Hong Kong. Let’s review Link’s growth journey.

Link’s Key Milestones

Temple Mall With a footbridge connecting the former Wong Tai Sin Plaza to Lung Cheung Mall, accessibility has improved by leaps and bounds. Shop and dine to your heart’s content, then visit the temple for a divination lot for good fortune to follow!

TKO Spot Level three of TKO Spot is now the largest rooftop sports space in Hong Kong! With options such as football, basketball, badminton and other ball games as well as a huge grass lawn and a “Fun Camp” camping experience area – it’s the perfect place for families to enjoy a leisurely weekend!

Complement Point series

Mimi Luk

Mimi Luk is a contemporary artist based in Hong Kong. She is known for her distinctive approach to woodblock printing and papercutting. Inspired by simplicity, nature, humanity, and life, Luk has developed her unique artistic style. This diptych explores themes of coexistence and mutual respect among species, illustrating how diverse life forms can thrive together in the same spaces. It emphasises the importance of harmony among humans, animals, cities, and nature in creating a liveable community. In “Complement Point One”, the artwork portrays animals within an urban landscape, demonstrating how city environments can be transformed into spaces of coexistence. It highlights the adaptability of wildlife, suggesting that cities are not solely humancentric but also serve as habitats for various species. This vision reflects a desirable living space where the presence of different life forms enriches urban life and contributes to a more vibrant community. In “Complement Point Two”, the focus is shifted to humans living in harmony with nature, underscoring the essential connection between people and the environment. It suggests that our well-being is intrinsically linked to the health of the natural world, emphasising the responsibility of humans to protect the ecosystem.

Thirty-eighth of Ninety-Nine Views of Polluta: The Great Big Red Sun / Thirty-ninth of Ninety-Nine Views of Polluta: Work Work Work! Every day!

Michelle Fung

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Michelle Fung is a contemporary visual artist who works in multiple media, including printmaking, illustration, and performance art. The two woodcut prints belong to Fung’s ongoing body of 99 woodcuts “Polluta Propaganda Woodcuts”. Both works portray the imaginary community of ‘Polluta,’ a sustainable utopia built from the conversion of air pollutants into resources. Artists live and create happily within this self-sufficient ecosystem, armed with positive attitude and a bright vision of the future. In “The Great Big Red Sun,” (Artwork on the left) the animals are all magical features of this artist colony. Dragons are depicted creating fertiliser for the rooftop farm, while pigs consume food waste, transforming into Chinese ham during the Lunar New Year. This creates a selfsustaining ecosystem which is environmentally-friendly and sustainable. The clouds in the artwork imply that it is an aerial community, further illustrated by a flying elephant transporting arts materials. In “Work Work Work! Every day!”, (Artwork on the right) the symbol on the flag and in the middle of the artwork is Polluta’s logo. It resembles a pictorial window, looking like a “P” in English and the Chinese character “田”. You can also see a few artists working away.

Stanley Plaza This plaza, alongside the historic Murray Building, is well-visited by many residents and tourists for its breathtaking views of the bay. Upon rejuvenation, its lively piazza now features an open-air amphitheater with a glass canopy and a pirate ship-themed playground, providing endless recreational options for all ages. Take your pick from the many al fresco dining options, then sit back and soak in the relaxing surrounds.

Hin Keng Shopping Centre Transforming the shopping centre and market for a fresher look to beckon! Spot the graphics depicting ears of rice reminiscent of Sha Tin’s paddy field days. Take a stroll along the food street to admire the charming murals and be spoilt for choice from the array of cuisines!

Sam Shing Commercial Centre Where the fishes on walls come alive! The vibrantly-coloured 13m mural showcases the unique Sam Shing scenery – capturing the idyllic seascape teeming with fishing boats, the fiery woks at the Mushroom Pavilions and the traditional charm of the Sam Shing Temple. Come by and savour the countless stories that lie within the mural!
