Welcome families! This biome, we have been working on some exciting projects that we would love to share with you!

Highlights!

Literacy We have explored Japan by connecting wild nature, ancient traditions, and technological innovations. Using Canva, we organised their ideas into travel brochures that showcase the country's unique blend of attractions.

We also robot prototypes and wrote "sales pitch" paragraphs about our innovative robots!

Maths This biome, we have learned about fractions. We know how to differentiate unit and non-unit fractions, identify equivalent fractions, and compare, order, add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. We used visuals, real-life examples and music to support our understanding!

Science In this unit, we stepped into the role of engineers to investigate the "science of stuff." We tested everyday materials to understand properties like strength and water resistance, then built functional prototypes. We learned to make evidence-based decisions and treat failure as a chance to improve our designs. We are also focused on sustainability, balancing performance with taking care of the Earth.

Social Science

We explored ancient civilizations by comparing societies in Egypt, the Yayoi period in Japan, and the Indus Valley. We looked at how each developed unique ways of living through their geography, social structures, agriculture, and technology, while also identifying similarities such as organized communities, trade, and innovation. This helped us understand how early societies shaped the foundations of the modern world.

Our names in Hieroglyphics! Can you decode them?

Art We learned about colour theory, relating colour to emotions and concepts, while developing our digital art and graphic design skills.

Drama We explored Japanese drama and culture. We performed, created, and reflected on stories, learning how drama shows history, values, and social ideas.

Literacy We explored point of view, characters, setting, and themes to develop and organise our ideas effectively. We told stories through dialogue, resulting in thoughtful, well-crafted pieces that will reflect both our creativity and strong analytical thinking.

Maths We explored fractions, decimals, percentages, and real-life problem solving all while travelling through Japan!

Fraction pizzas - yum!

Science We explored how energy and matter move through ecosystems, beginning with the sun as Earth’s primary energy source. We made our own matter recycling jars with food scraps and observed it all decompose!

Social Science We studied the industrial revolution as well as its developments in transportation, labour, and education. We put together a presentation of our learning!
