The Tengu (天狗) is a supernatural figure from Japanese folklore, often described as a demon or mountain spirit. The name “Tengu” translates to “heavenly dog,” a reference to their roots in Chinese mythology. Despite their fearsome appearance, they are not entirely evil. Instead, they live in a complex moral space—guardians and tricksters, mentors and mischief-makers.
Ekpo, the Ibibio word for 'ancestor', was also the name of the most important men's society, called Ekpo Nyoho. Masks used for festivals and masquerades were thought to evoke both benign and malevolent ancestors, who were responsible for protecting their descendants.
Mask dances (topeng) are performed at annual temple anniversary celebrations and other holidays in the Balinese religious calendar. Topeng panjegan is a sacred dance occurring inside a temple courtyard, inspired by myths and legends about ancient Balinese rulers and heroes. It is a celebration held to please deities and bond with their divine power

Question: 2/2
Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice, Italy. The masks are typically worn during the Carnival of Venice, but have been used on many other occasions in the past, usually as a device for hiding the wearer’s identity and social status. The mask would permit the wearer to act more freely in cases where they wanted to interact with other members of society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters.
Day of the Dead is not the Mexican version of Halloween! Day of the Dead festivities span two days, an explosion of color and life-affirming joy. The day demonstrates love and respect for deceased friends and family members. In ancient times, skulls were used to honor the dead. During celebrations, people wore costumes and used caretas, or masks, to scare the dead away at the end of the festivities.
