The Missing Dollar
Three friends stay in a hotel room that costs 30 dollars. Each one contributes 10 dollars. Later, the clerk realizes that the room only cost 25 dollars and gives 5 dollars to the bellboy to return to the friends. However, the bellboy decides to keep 2 dollars and gives 1 dollar back to each friend. Now, each friend has paid 9 dollars, which totals 27 dollars. The bellboy has 2 dollars. Where is the missing dollar?
The Monty Hall Problem
You are on a game show and given the option to choose between three doors: behind one is a car; behind the others are goats. You choose a door, say number 1, and the host, who knows what is behind the doors, opens another door, say number 3, revealing a goat. Then he says: “Do you want to choose door number 2 instead?” Should you switch your choice?
The Farmer’s Challenge
A farmer needs to cross a river with a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage. His boat is small and can only carry him and one other item at a time. He cannot leave the wolf alone with the goat, nor the goat alone with the cabbage. How does he do it?
Matchstick Equation
Matchstick puzzles are a classic type of brain teaser where you are given a mathematical equation made with matchsticks. The fun twist? The equation is incorrect as it stands, and your task is to move or remove one or more matchsticks to make the equation true. These puzzles test your creativity, problem-solving skills, and sometimes your patience as you try to see beyond the initial arrangement to discover the hidden solution in plain sight.
The Water Jug Puzzle
This is a timeless riddle that tests your problem-solving skills and logical thinking. The puzzle usually involves two jugs of different capacities and the task of measuring a specific amount of water using these jugs. The trick? The jugs have no measurement markings, forcing you to think creatively to reach the goal. Let’s dive into a classic version: you have a 3-liter jug and a 5-liter jug, and your task is to measure exactly 4 liters of water. How do you do it? This puzzle may seem impossible at first glance, but with a little ingenuity you will find that the solution is quite elegant.
