Companion Emotions
(inspired by Alex elle's honoring Grief and joy)
start
We spend time with and in our emotions every day. Emotions are often more intense when found in tandem. One makes the other more complex and real. There are times in life when it feels like joy has packed its bags and left, when grief is the only companion sitting at the table, for example.
Inspiration
Process
Think about two emotions that you want to spend time with and that sit side by side. Honor them. Lean in and trust whatever you feel. Explore Brene´Brown's Atlas of the Heart List of Emotions for ideas.
childhood is a time for curiosity (i wonder where that went) eyes full of interest wide with surprise (no longer) through looking glasses and neverlands (disappeared) asking why and why some more (no time for that) I don’t want to know What happens in the upside down worlds (Shut the door, lock it tight) Confusion sits alongside The answers to why (Check under the bed) Eyes wide shut Ears jammed open (Make it stop) Don’t go down that road The breadcrumbs aren’t safe (Keep the light on please)

Relief shows up later, leaning against the wall, checking the clock, nodding when I finish a page. They don’t give praise. They just help me turn things in on time. By midnight the room is quiet, the assignment uploaded, and for once you are finally relieved
