Archaeopteryx "feathers"

Before the 1900's

In 1861 the discovery of a fossil of Archeopteryx proves the existence of dinosaurs who could fly and had feathers, therefore giving an important link between dinosaurs and birds. During the 1870's two archaeologists start a rivarly to see who can find and document the largest amount of fossils.

In 1677 the first ever fossil to be reported as a dinosaur gets discovered near Oxford in England. Almost 150 years later new discoveries lead to the theory of an extinct species of reptiles. Geologist William Buckland names this new animal the Megalosaurus. Around two decades after this discovery the scientist Richard Owen names the newly discovered specied "Dinosaurs".

Present day

In recent years discoveries about the Mesozoic Era have exponentially grew in both number and importance. Thanks to evidence found in South America and Asia scientists have been able to determine the presence of flowering plants, small dinosaurs that resemble birds and much more!
