Agenda el seminario
Anna Aiello is currently a Type B Researcher at the University of Palermo in the academic field of General Pathology and Clinical Pathology. In June 2022, she obtained the National Scientific Qualification for the position of Associate Professor in the same field.
Her academic training includes a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Parma (2013), a PhD in Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology from the University of Palermo (2017), awarded with the title of Doctor Europaeus, and a Postgraduate Specialization in Human Nutrition Sciences (2023).
Since 2020, she has been teaching General Pathology in several degree programmes within the School of Medicine and has gained significant experience in the supervision and training of students in the fields of nursing, biomolecular sciences, and immunology.
She has developed solid expertise in immunopathology, ageing, and immunosenescence, with a particular focus on long-lived Sicilian populations and age-related diseases. More recently, her research has focused on the immunomodulatory properties of polyphenol-rich natural extracts, with particular emphasis on their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolated from buffy coats and cultured under specific experimental conditions.
Throughout her academic career, she has held several institutional roles, including Delegate for Internationalization and Student Guidance for the Nursing Degree Programme and member of the Joint Teacher-Student Committee (CPDS).
She has authored around 80 publications and has an h-index of 23 (Scopus ID: 56511365200).
She is also the scientific coordinator of the research project “Evaluation of the immunomodulatory role of phytochemical
compounds in peripheral mononuclear cells” and is involved in several nationally and internationally funded research projects,
including Italian national projects and European initiatives such as the Horizon project “ISOLDA”, focused on immunosenescence and vaccines.
She is a member of the Management Committee of the European COST Action SENESCENCE2030 (CA23119).
