SWOT Analysis
how can we get community families, that are districted to Parkland to support culturally diverse learning and strengthen our student vision of academic improvement?
Strengths
Weaknesses
Parkland is rich in culture and it allows parents and families with culture to express themselves and invites other families through multicultural nights. Other events are also hosted to attract families and bring in community. The staff culture Is accepting of all races and ethnicities at Parkland so implementation would be significant and approved by the community.
While this helps communities come together and other families, teachers that attend these nights are few. This Is not because of interest but due to hours being put in at school already. Teachers are not always willing to attend late night gatherings on school nights. Finding the right time for our teachers to also participate is important.
Opportunities
Threats
The barriers that stand in the way would be the school improvement plan and the school's goals to improve testing. By incorporating academic language, students are forced to improve by by testing standards without examining other factors that impact student learning. The biggest challenge would be administration if they decided that culturally responsive teaching was not a part of the immediate vision and provide no flexibility to benefit students..
I believe that most teachers are actually willing to participate during the day as perhaps Professional development. A lot of time is put into new teaching strategies, new curriculums that will benefit students, and little to no time to learn about the families we teach or cultures in our neighborhoods. This gives the teachers a chance to appreciate our community and how to understands families and students through their culture.
