After World War 2 the American population increased a lot because the country was richer than ever. Cities did not have enough space to fit all these new families and because they could afford it they were looking for a bigger living space. That is why Mr Levitt decided to mass produce wooden, cheap homes to fit the demand of these new families. This is how American suburbs were created.
