Stephen Fuller Austin, better known as "the father of Texas," was born in 1793 and died in 1836. He was the first to bring and lead 300 Anglo-American settler families to the region and establish colonies. He was also a commander of the Texan army in the Texas Revolution.

In 1836 in Washington on the Brazos, an agreement was signed stating that Texas was no longer part of Mexico and became an independent country called the Republic of Texas.

The Fredonian Rebellion

In 1826, people tried to break away from Mexico led by Edwards, and Edwards declared the Republic of Fredonia.

On April 6, 1830 the Mexican government made a new law about that was that they banned slaves but the Texans would still bring in the slaves by sneaking them without the Mexicans seeing. The Mexican government didnt know at first until it got around the country and they banned it. Texas was mad at them for banning bringing slaves in texas.

Goliad Massacre

On March 27, 1836, Mexican forces executed more than 340 Texan prisoners of war in Goliad, Texas, under the orders of General Santa Anna

William Barrett Travis was born in 1809 and died in 1836. He was the commander of the Alamo from February 23 to March 6, 1836. He was known for the famous letter "Victory or Death," asking for help to defend the Alamo, but unfortunately, he died in the Battle of the Alamo.

Battle of Gonzalez

The Battle of Gonzales happened because Gonzales wanted the cannon that Gonzales had given to the Texans and then the first shot of the cannon was fired on October 2, 1835. The military commander in Texas received news that the American settlers of Gonzales refused to hand over a small cannon that had been given to that settlement in 1831 as defense against the Indians.

Antonio López de Santa Anna was born in 1794 and died in 1876. He was a general, politician, and six-time president of Mexico. He participated in the Texas Revolution (the Battle of the Alamo, the Goliad Massacre, and his defeat at the Battle of San Jacinto) as commander of the Mexican army.

Battle of san jacinto

Near the San Jacinto River, on April 21, 1836, with cries of "Remember the Alamo!" and "Remember Goliad!", the Texans, led by General Sam Houston, defeated the Mexican army led by Santa Anna in just 18 minutes. This was the last battle of the Texas Revolution.
