History:

St.Patrick’s Day is celebrated on 17th March. It is a special day in Ireland. The day is about Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

Traditions and curiosities:

Green: The three-leaf clover (shamrock) was used by Saint Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity to the Celts. Leprechauns: Figures from Celtic folklore, often shown with pots of gold and green hats, are part of the festival. Drinking: In the past, this was the only day when people were allowed to drink alcohol in public in Ireland because of a law from 1960. Drowning the Shamrock: A tradition where a shamrock is placed in a glass of drink. People make a toast, drink it, and then throw the shamrock over their shoulder for good luck.
