What is this project?
This is your RESEARCH project for Unit 4! You are CREATING your research question, finding sources to help answer your question, writing a thesis about your topic, and then writing a 5 paragraph informational research essay about it!
It sounds like a lot, but if you take it one step at a time it is very simple!
What can I research?
Choose one of three CATEGORIES or BROAD TOPICS (ClassKick Page 1) 1. Future of Home and Farming Technology 2. Future of Information and Communication Technology 3. Future of Medical Technology
I chose my broad topic, what now?
Think of some things in that topic that interest you! Choose ONE narrow topic to research EX: If I choose Information and Communication Technology, I may choose to research social media, cell phones, virtual reality, or video games!
After choosing your narrow topic, write your research question!
EX: How will technology change the usage of cell phones in the future?
Now you should be on Page 2 of the ClassKick!
You can use Padlet 1 to find information about what you are researching. IF you cannot find enough information in that Padlet of articles, you may do your own research. Just make sure your sources are CREDIBLE!
VS
Non-Credible Source
Credible Source
- google AI
- LinkedIn
- most .com websites
- website ends in .edu, .gov, .org
- author is an expert of their field
- article does not include bias or opinion
If you aren't sure if a source is credible - ASK!
Okay, I found information- now what?
Thesis: Technology will change the usage of cell phones in the future by reason 1, reason 2, and reason 3.
Use that information with your research question to write your thesis! Research question: How will technology change the usage of cell phones in the future?
+ info
Once your thesis is written, start gathering EVIDENCE!
After you find your quote, paraphrase it! This means to put it into your own words. After it is paraphrased, explain why/how this quote supports what you are talking about in your research essay! Do this for all three sources, resulting in a total of 3 quotes with explanations to use in your writing!
We know that EVIDENCE is quotes. You should have 3 sources to use in your paper, so you should have 3 quotes. Page 3 of the ClassKick has space for you to copy down your quotes. Copy (CTRL + C) the quote from the website. Make sure to copy the URL Link (website in the search bar) into the ClassKick also so we can cite later on!
You now have the bones of your essay. The hard part is over! What's next?
Make sure lesson 4.3.1 is submitted
Review the BrainPop activites
Begin drafting your paragraphs in CK pages 6-8
Make sure your ClassKick (CK) is complete through page 4
Review the outline steps on CK page 5
The BrainPop activites will help you understand more about citing and plagarizing before we move forward!
When you use quotes or paraphrases in your writing, you HAVE to cite where the information came from. Any time you reference ideas that are not originally yours, you MUST CITE!
But how?? 1. Directly after your quote, put parenthases with the author's last name in it 2. Include a works cited page at the end of your paper BOTH ARE MANDATORY!!!!!
Okay, now what? Review the rubric in the ClassKick (Page 9)
Open a WORD Doc -Edio -Open Microsoft and Edio -Open Microsoft Word
revise and edit spelling, grammar, etc
Copy and paste your paragraphs into the word doc
Make sure to do your works cited page
Add your heading and title
Heading and title????
The top left hand side of your doc should say

Above your Paragraph 1, you should give your paper a title that references your topic!
Make sure to check your paper against your rubric
Make sure you have 3 quotes from 3 sources, all cited. Check your spelling and grammar.
** IF I SUSPECT YOU PLAGARIZED OR USED AI IN YOUR PROJECT, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO MEET WITH ME ONE ON ONE BEFORE RECEIVING A GRADE. IF YOU ARE GUILTY OF PLAGARIZING OR USING AI YOU WILL HAVE TO REDO THE PROEJCT
When writing your thesis, remove the question words from the beginning of your research question (who, what, wen, where, how, why, etc). Use the rest of your research question as your "sentence starter" Put the information you learned when researching in as your reasons 1, 2 and 3. This is your thesis! One sentence explaining exactly what is going to be talked about in your essay!
