Immersing students
- The Active Citizenship Convention will give year 10 students the opportunity to learn and connect directly with policy makers, leaders and researchers, and their peers about the importance of democracy in the modern world.
- We'll provide schools and teachers with details on how to connect with local, state and federal civics and citizenship resources and contacts.
What we're delivering
- An annual Active Citizenship Convention to promote youth voice and civic participation via immersive democratic experiences.
- Intended to connect young people across sectors and geographies, build trust in democracy and empower youth.
- Supporting public schools to introduce school-based opportunities for students to participate in immersive experiences.

Learning reform
What we're delivering
- Strengthening aspects of civics and citizenship in the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area of the South Australian Curriculum, particularly in years 7 and 8.
- Introducing civics and citizenship as a cross-curriculum priority in the South Australian Curriculum, across all learning areas from reception to year 10, across all public schools.
- Our approach will adapt the existing curriculum to develop and embed civics and citizenship as a priority across all subjects. This allows a greater focus on civics and citizenship without adding new subjects to the curriculum.
- The cross-curriculum priority will promote a more consistent approach to civics and citizenship education in public education.

- It gives year 7 and 8 teachers the opportunity to be formally recognised for their knowledge and expertise.
- Targeted professional learning programs for year 7 and 8 HASS teachers in public high schools, to develop specialist expertise in civics and citzenship.
- Self-paced learning program for year 9 and 10 non-HASS teachers in public high schools, highlighting civics themes already in the curriculum, and focusing on how to adapt learning to better address and engage in these themes.
