Liability coverage is broken down into two parts: Liability Coverage and Medical Payments Coverage. Click each below to learn more.
Liability Coverage
Medical Payments Coverage
Liability & Medical Payments Coverage Commonalities
Losses due to abuse, business pursuits, communicable diseases, criminal or intentional acts, professional services, racing, and other causes are excluded from coverage for both liability and medical payments.
Similarly, Medical Payments Coverage is excluded for Trespassers and for persons entitled to workers comp or similar benefits.
Liability coverage is excluded for several additional causes, including bodily injury to the named insured and spouse if a resident of the same household, relatives who are residents of the insured’s household, or any person under age 21 who is a resident of the insured’s household.
Uninsured Boater Coverage
The boatowners policy provides coverage for losses caused by an ‘Uninsured Boater’. Similar to the automobile policy, the boatowners policy will provide coverage for bodily injury or property damage to an insured caused by a boat for which:
- There is no liability coverage or
- For a hit and run ‘boat’ that the owner or operator cannot be identified
Note: Uninsured Boater Coverage applies only to 'Bodily Injury.' There is no Uninsured Boater Coverage for 'Property Damage.'

Liability Coverage
- Applies to bodily injury or property damage for which the insured is legally liable due to the operation of covered property (boat, motor, or trailer).
- Up to 25% of the available liability coverage limit may be applied to raise, remove or wreck sunken property, if required by law or governmental authority. Typically, this applies when a boat is sunk in a navigable channel or harbor area and may impede boat traffic or create a hazard for other boats.
Medical Payments
- Medical Payments Coverage applies regardless of legal liability if a person qualifies for coverage under that part of the policy.
- Medical Payments coverage will pay for necessary medical expenses incurred or medically determined within three years of an accident. This applies to anyone using or caring for the covered property (boat, motor, or trailer) with permission.
