The photovoltaic effect: When sunlight hits the panel, it transfers energy to the electrons in the silicon, setting them in motion.
Direct Current: This ordered movement of electrons generates a direct electric current.
The Inverter: It is the "brain" of the system. Since our appliances use alternating current the inverter transforms the direct current from the panels into alternating current that can be used in the home.
Storage : If the energy produced is not consumed immediately, it can be stored in storage batteries for use at night

The desert could power the world: It would be enough to cover a small portion of the Sahara desert (about 1%) with solar panels to generate enough electricity for the entire planet. Panels love the cold: Contrary to popular belief, solar panels work best when it's cold! Excessive heat reduces the efficiency of circuits; the ideal is a freezing day but with very clear sunshine.
