"INSIEME in the nature classroom" project
Under the same sky project
Next group of projects
The scientific exploration of Nature allows children to search for a new meaning to the experience of illness, giving the period of hospitalization a value of intellectual and personal growth through a more intimate and meaningful relationship with nature. When we observe the world around us, we instinctively think that everything we see with our eyes is all there is to see. The stereomicroscope allows us to produce a stereoscopic view of an object with magnifications up to 45x, allowing us to discover what would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye and to look at the world with new eyes.

"Bright green - herbarium project"
Middle school - I.C. Via Maffi - DS Alessandra Mancuso
The creation of the herbarium is part of the larger "Verde Brillante" project, which aims to raise awareness of nature among inpatient students through a playful and educational approach. By stimulating curiosity and active interaction, the theme of nature becomes a pretext for educating them about knowledge and respect of the environment. The object of study is a plant component, which is dried and catalogued using scientific nomenclature, accompanied by a scientific study, an artistic composition, or a literary piece. The final product will be a laminated card to be displayed in the usual end-of-year exhibition in the Nature Room of the Bambin Gesù Hospital in Palidoro.
What is it about?
The Third Pavilion of the Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital in Palidoro features a green space, the "Massimo Mariani" Park, inaugurated in 2022.
This area also includes a nature room near the sea, created by the WWF for hospitalized children.

The creator of the symbol in the background
The project leads the students, through the reflection and the study of the theme of the symbol, to create a personal relationship symbol as a representative space of experience: with myself, with my spirituality, with my experience in hospital, , with the theme of peace.
What is it about?
personal relationship symbols with:
- talents,
- desires,
- dreams,
- hopes

The creator of the recipes
In collaboration with the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, this cooking workshop was designed for students at the Pediatric Palliative Care Center in Passoscuro in order to create joyful memories while supporting natural and authentic English learning (e.g. ingredients vocabulary, cooking verbs, imperative instructions, listening comprehension, etc.).
What is it about?
active participation, multisensory engagement, concentration and self-confidence
Beyond language skills, this project also promotes active participation, multisensory engagement, concentration and self-confidence through small, achievable tasks which are extremely important for students in palliative care. Each recipe is always shared with the teachers, the family and the medical team, (acting as “MasterChef Judges”), transforming every small achievement into a meaningful and memorable experience.
+ Some recipes
Lorenzo’s recipes around the world:
1. Crepes (France)
2. Cheesecake (USA)
5. Savory Chinese Pancakes (China)
3. Meatballs and tiramisu' (Italy)
4. Nachos (Mexico)
6. Sushi (Japan)
"Calendar project"
Middle school - I.C. Via Maffi - DS Alessandra Mancuso
The multidisciplinary project involves the creation of an annual calendar composed of graphic/pictorial works by the children admitted to the OPBG and CCPP. The drawings are created using a variety of expressive techniques, including tempera, watercolor, pencil, and wax crayon, often using stencils, airbrushes, and digital tablet programs (Sketchbook, Ibis Paint, LibreOffice Draw). The final product is digitally reworked, printed on Forex, and posted in a hospital waiting room so that the children who participated in the project can see their work on display and enjoy it along with their families and healthcare staff throughout the school year.
What is it about?
"MateMusica per Tutti"
High school - Liceo Vittoria Colonna - DS Franca Ida Rossi
The "MateMusica per Tutti" project integrates mathematics and music education for all hospitalized high school students in Rome, using accessible instruments like digital pianos, ukuleles, and guitars at their bedsides.
It fosters inclusive learning by developing mathematical modeling skills through musical patterns, scales, and rhythms, while enhancing digital, linguistic, and emotional competencies in a therapeutic hospital setting.
Musica e Poesia, a key interdisciplinary lab launched in spring 2025, combines music therapy with poetry for emotional catharsis, involving students, caregivers, psychologists, and music therapists at the CCPP center.
Overall, the initiative addresses curriculum gaps in music education, supports PEI students, and promotes holistic well-being through creative, personalized musical productions.
What is it about?
The creative writing workshop promotes an interactive approach, placing the student at the heart of the learning process. Specifically, the workshop aims to produce a poetic or narrative composition, foster the development of creativity, and allow students to express and share their emotional inner world. At the same time, students have the opportunity to learn and apply the fundamental elements of poetic and narrative writing while integrating different fields of knowledge; the starting point for their personal work is often a reflection on a topic addressed in other subjects. The workshop is tailored to the specific needs of each student, in coordination with therapeutic goals and following the guidance of the healthcare team (after all, every student is a world of their own!).
What is it about?
"Creative writing"
Middle school - I.C. Via Maffi - DS Alessandra Mancuso
This is a metaphor that indicates that the children are lit up with enthusiasm, forgetting their current difficulties, as they create geometric, technical, graphic and digital drawings of stars, flowers, domes, monuments, laboratory activities such as the creation of electrical circuits with LEDs on plywood boards, the creation of animated videos, Christmas decorations, and string art with coloured threads woven on balsa wood boards. Their works, created together or individually, are compiled into calendars, posters, and flyers using programmes such as Canva, LibreOffice Draw, Photoshop, and Photopad.Drawing can have positive effects on health and well-being, especially when children express their emotions. Every year, some drawings are sent to participate in the technical/art competition of the Verona Hospital “Con Ali di Carta” (With Paper Wings), while other works are exhibited at the end-of-year exhibitions within the hospital facilities. It is an opportunity for pupils to enhance their manual skills and give space to creativity and expression.
What is it about?
"M'illumino d'immenso"
Middle school - I.C. Via Maffi - DS Alessandra Mancuso
CReations:
The school at the CCPP is an integral part of teamwork to reduce patient suffering and improve their quality of life.

The end-of-year exhibition involves all three grade levels and takes place in the OPBG Nature Hall and at the CCPP WWF Oasis. This multidisciplinary project showcases the activities undertaken during the school year, showcasing drawings and paintings created by the hospitalized children using a variety of media (digital, watercolor, tempera, colored pencils, oil pastels, or wax crayons), primarily on colored cardstock or canvas. Through these works, the children have the opportunity to express and process the emotions experienced during their hospital stay, giving them form and color. The students thus see their creations on display, becoming the true protagonists of the event.

Astronomy is the science that studies the appearance and chemical-physical nature of the stars, interstellar space, and the motions of celestial bodies. It is therefore mathematics, geometry, measurement, calculation, art; it is also history, the study of myths and legends, observation of the sky, light, and shadow; it is reflection and the search for explanations for observed phenomena. Therefore, it lends itself easily to interdisciplinary work, which will be more effective, in terms of engagement and understanding, than a conventional approach. Astronomy also offers an opportunity, through practical activities, to surface and correct any conceptual prejudices or false beliefs about certain topics and natural phenomena or astronomical events.
Parents, teachers, and professional educators help children care for the plants and vegetables grown.A specific area is dedicated to aromatic herbs and another to ornamental plants. In the nature classroom, foreign children learn new Italian words through direct experience, and the young patients in the neurorehabilitation department can experience visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile sensations.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore.
Many activities are carried out, including a butterfly project that has been ongoing for several years; children can witness their metamorphosis, from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly.
