Fitness Focus

Hover your mouse over each task to explain or show your teammates the warm up. Remember you will be in pairs. One partner stays back and does the stretching while the other partner does the footwork challenge from VOLLEYBALL BLACK SIDELINE TO SIDELINE. Mrs. Porter is giving you 5 minutes to complete this warm up. If you finish before time is up, sit with your team behind your team cone.

Lesson Focus

Coaches will lead

The object is to prepare you to dribble in a game setting with control and confidence.

  1. You will be in pairs. On the start signal, one student will complete the dribbling challenge while their partner positions themselves halfway between the starting line and finish line and act as a “human cone”.
  2. The student completing the dribbling challenge will perform the move identified for that round on the Challenge Card with their dominant hand once they reach their partner, then continue to the finish line.
  3. They will turn and repeat the move on the way back to the starting line. Once the partner completes one round down and back of the challenge, the partners will trade roles.
  4. Continue to alternate roles until all six rounds have been completed successfully. PLEASE NOTE THAT BOTH PARTNER COMPLETE THE DRIBBLING CHALLENGE BEOFRE MOVING ON TO THE NEXT ROUND.
  5. You have 7 minutes to complete this activity. When you hear the stop signal be ready for the next set of instructions.
  6. THUMBS UP WHEN YOU ARE READY

Hover your mouse over each round to see a demonstration of the challenge to show or explain to your group. Split yourselves up behind your team cones and move from volleyball sideline to sideline. Mrs. Porter will start the timer when all groups are ready. Thumbs up to let her know your group is good!

Lesson Focus

Coaches will lead

The object is to defend a dribbler moving down the full length of the court. This will help you practice defense in a game setting with control and confidence.

  1. Continue working within your teams with your partner, but this will be done as a whole class. Start at a cone in the corner of the gym.
  2. On the start signal, one pair from each line will begin. One partner will start with the ball (dribbler) and their partner (defender) will face them in a defensive position.
  3. The dribbler will dribble with their left hand towards the BLUE CONE and the defender will work to stay in front of the dribbler, and not allow them to turn up court. At the BLUE CONE, the dribbler performs a move of their choice to turn and dribble to the PURPLE CONE.
  4. The defender will again work to stay in front of the dribbler and not allow them to turn the corner.
  5. This repeats again at the PURPLE CONE and one more time at RED CONE and then to the opposite corner.
  6. Partners then switch positions at the baseline and go down the opposite side of the court (the pattern makes a “W” along the right side of the court).
  7. The next pair of students begins dribbling when the pair in front of them makes it to theBLUE CONE.
  8. After two full-court trips, the dribbler is allowed to take whatever path (on the right side of the court) they choose to beat their defender once they cross half court. Two additional trips should be completed, for a total of four trips.
  9. PLEASE NOTE, BOTH PARNTERS COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE AS THE DRIBBLER FOR ONE TRIP TO COUNT AS COMPLETED.

Lesson Focus

Coaches will lead

The object is to work on the offensive skill of dribbling and the defensive skill of stealing

  1. On the start signal, everyone will begin dribbling in their “court” working to maintain control of the ball.
  2. Just like in a basketball game, you need to simultaneously try to prevent any other players from causing you to lose control of the ball.
  3. Losing control of the ball includes mishandling a dribble, a double dribble, dribbling outside of the boundary, or having another student tap your ball that leads to not maintaining a continuous dribble.
  4. Anytime you lose control of your ball, you will rotate one court clockwise and begin again.
  5. Once you are finished with instruction, Mrs. Porter will instruct and demonstrate court rotation to avoid confusion before we begin our games.
  6. We will play for approximately 8 minutes.
  7. Continue to rotate one court clockwise any time you lose control of your ball until you hear the stop signal.
  8. On the stop signal, we will determine which team (e.g., red, purple, etc.) “wins” each of the 6 courts by having the most players from their team in that court.

FOOTWORK WARM-UP

The object is to allow you to prepare to move safely during our basketball skills and game play.

  1. Within your teams you will need to be with a partner. One partner will stay and work on the stretching and the other patner will complete the footwork and then switch.
  2. On the start signal, work to complete the footwork and stretching challenges found on the challenge card.
  3. One student will complete the footwork challenge while their partner performs the designated stretch.
  4. Once the partner completes one round of down and back of the footwork challenge, the partners will trade roles.
  5. Continue to alternate completing the footwork and stretching challenges until all six rounds have been completed--REMEMBER, BOTH PARTNERS COMPLETE THE FOOTWORK CHALLENGE AND THE STRETCHING CHALLENGE BEFORE MOVING ONTO THE NEXT ROUND.
  6. On the stop signal be ready for the next set of instructions.
Click on Mrs. Porter to continue your lesson.

FAIR PLAY POINTS

REACT AND RUN

  • Today we will introduce the Fair Play Point System, where you will have more points available for being a good citizen than you will for winning or losing a game.
  • This extrinsic reward system will hopefully motivate you with some purpose to assist them during class. Some of you have that intrinsic drive (personally) motivated based on elements of the skills and competition that speak to them on a deeper level.
  • Please work collaboratively with your classmates in order to gain the highest number of points each day and for the season.
  • Good luck! 🍀
