Life cycle Assessments

Product life cycle assessments are an assessment of the impact a product or service has on the environment and the consumption of resources across the span of its lifecycle. This includes the resources utilised in the production of the product or service, the material processing, the production activities, the associated logistics activities, the product or service use, and its end of life processing. ISO have developed a standard by which organisations can measure the impact a product has on human health, ecosystem quality and the depletion of natural resources across its lifecycle.

Product Design

Utilising reporting functions and feedback, product design should be considered through an environmental scope. Consider the design choices and look to reduce any negative impact they have on the environment and society throughout the product lifecycle. This may include supporting customers in making sustainable choices in the selection, utilisation, reuse, access to spare parts and disposal (or return) of products and/or packaging.

Product Recovery Management (PRM)

PRM is a process that supports the circular economy with a focus on backwards flow within the supply chain. It's purpose is to find value in the components, parts, materials and products that remain the responsibility of the manufacturing company. The focus of PRM is Repair, Refurbishment, Remanufacturing, Cannibalisation and Recycling (Grant et al, 2022).
