Continuation of the Accommodation Process

Suspension or revocation of an ESA does not end the interactive process. Students may request to explore alternative reasonable accommodations through the Accessible Education and Resource Center.

Finality of Decisions

Suspension or revocation of an ESA does not end the interactive process. Students may request to explore alternative reasonable accommodations through the Accessible Education and Resource Center.

Review and Decision Process

When Concerns arise that may warrant suspension :

  • The Accessible Education and Resource Center will conduct an individualized review
  • Relevant information may be gathered from Housing and Residence Life, Facilities Management, Public Safety, or other University offices
  • The student may be provided an opportunity to respond as part of the review process

Effective Date and Removal Requirement

  • Suspension or revocation of ESA approval is effective upon written notice.
  • The student will be required to remove the animal from campus within a timeframe determined by the University based on the circumstances involved.
  • Failure to comply with removal requirements may result in additional housing or conduct action.

Grounds for Rovacation or Suspension

ESA approval may be suspended or revoked if any of the following occur:

  • Required documentation becomes invalid, outdated, or no longer supports the accommodation
  • The student fails to engage in the interactive process in good faith
  • The student violates University policies, Housing and Residence Life policies, or the Student Code of Conduct
  • The animal poses a health or safety risk to others
  • The animal exhibits ongoing disruptive or unsafe behavior
  • The student fails to meet care, control, cleanliness, or location expectations outlined in this handbook
  • The student fails to accept financial responsibility for damage, cleaning, pest control, or related costs
Renter’s insurance is not required. If a student chooses to carry renter’s insurance, the presence or absence of coverage does not determine approval or revocation and does not relieve the student of financial responsibility.
