Reading - What does it mean to summarize a story?
When we summarize a story, we tell the story in our own words. We include the main events and leave out the unimportant details.
We need to pay close attention to the main idea, details, and sequence of the story to create a good summary.
The main idea and details will help us identify what is important enough to include in our summary. The sequence will make sure it is told in the correct order.
We will take a closer look at summaries this week as we read "The Hunting Party."
Grammar - What is a pronoun?
We are going to take a closer look at pronouns this week. A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.
John wants to be a firefighter. John wants to help save people.
To make the second sentence sound better, you can put a pronoun in place of the word John.
John wants to be a firefighter. He wants to help save people.
The word "he" is a pronoun that takes the place of the word "John."
Pronouns are used in writing all the time. Some common pronouns are I, you, he, she, it, we, they, him, her, them, and us.
We'll practice identifying pronouns and using them in our writing this week.
writing - What is a descriptive paragraph?
This week, we will be writing a descriptive paragraph. To learn more about what a descriptive paragraph is, let's watch the video.
