Strategy
The digital and technological transformation strategy will underpin the skills, competencies and knowledge that are required within the organisation. Define the:
- Goals and objectives
- The technology and/or systems to be implemented
- Alignment to the overall organisational strategy.
Current Skills and Capabilities
The first step is to understand what skills are currently held within the organisation and workforce; understand what is in place already that can support the digital and technological transformation:
- Identify the new skills that are required to support the transformation and analyse the skills gap.
- Map the current skills of your workforce to the roles and tasks that will be required to support the digital transformation.
- Work with Human Resources and Managers to identify potential candidates who can be upskilled for new roles.
Transformation Skills Requirement
Based on the digital transformation strategy, identify the skills and competencies that will be crucial for successful implementation.
This might include technical skills like data analysis, programming, cloud computing, cybersecurity, as well as soft skills like adaptability, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Some skills may need to be recruited in.
Future Skills Requirement
Digital transformation is an ongoing consideration and the skills needed may need to be stretched or new ones learnt. By encouraging a continuous learning ethos and growth mindset, colleagues are more likely to embrace change and recognise challenges as opportunities and career development.
Training and Upskilling
Develop learning and training programmes to upskill your employees in the identified areas. Offer both formal training programmes and opportunities for self-learning. This might include workshops, online courses, mentorship programs, or on-the-job training. Digital literacy programmes to support everyone in understaning the concepts of digital and technological transformation and how to successfully engage in the transformation are also important.
