The immortal jellyfish

Scientific name: Turritopsis dohrnii Common name: Immortal jellyfish Discovered in the Mediterranean Sea One of the few animals capable of biological immortality

life cycle

developed the ability to return to the polyp state, through a process of transdifferentiation

larvae that rest on the seabed

Jellyfish egg

new jellyfish are born

they develop into colonies of polyps.

Jellyfish become sexually mature after a few weeks

WHY IS IT IMMORTAL?

The immortal jellyfish Turritopsis dohrnii is considered as such because it is capable of reversing its life cycle, regressing from the adult stage to the juvenile through a process called transdifferentiation.

Why Is It impotant?

the importance of the immortal jellyfish:

  • in the animal food chain, they are predators and prey at the same time.
  • Like turtles they move in warmer seas because they can't live in cold seas so they can understand if the water is getting coolder.
  • Scientist are studying its process to help and give medicine new cure to deseases or new organs.

the smell of the universe

Outer space itself is almost a perfect vacuum, which means it cannot carry smells in the traditional sense

Origin of the Observation

The idea that “space smells like a burnt steak” is not just poetic imager, it comes from real astronaut reports. Astronauts such as Chris Hadfield.

The smell becomes noticeable only when the astronauts return inside the spacecraft after a spacewalk because articles accumulated on suits and tools

It’s Raining Diamonds

  • Atmospheric Composition: High concentrations of methane (CH4) in the outer layers.T
  • The Transformation: Extreme pressure turns carbon into solid crystals.
  • The "Rain": Diamonds sink through the planet's mantle toward the core.
  • Location: Occurs deep within Uranus and Neptune, not on the surface

Diamonds born in planetary depths

Crystal Formation: Under millions of atmospheres of pressure, carbon crushes into diamond.

Molecular Breakdown: Intense heat and pressure snap methane's chemical bonds.

Carbon Isolation: Hydrogen is squeezed out, leaving pure carbon behind.

Gravity’s Role: These diamonds are denser than the surrounding fluid and "fall" inward

Science vs Fiction

  • Lab Evidence and Energy Laser Simulation: Scientists used X-ray lasers to recreate these conditions on Earth.
  • Confirmed Results: Nanoseconds of diamond formation were observed in laboratory tests.
  • Internal Heating: The friction of falling diamonds helps explain Neptune’s high internal temperature.
  • Reality Check: The "rain" likely looks like a mix of sparkling dust and large, heavy gemstones

Plants do not feel pain like animals.

Pain requires a brain and nerves, which plants do not have. So they cannot suffer. However, plants can still react when they are damaged. For example, they can release chemicals to defend themselves or warn other plants.
