Il teatro comico è una commedia metateatrale in cui Goldoni, attraverso le prove di una compagnia, teorizza e difende la sua riforma: sostituire l'improvvisazione e le maschere fisse della Commedia dell'Arte con testi scritti e personaggi realistici, capaci di riflettere autenticamente la natura umana e le dinamiche del quotidiano.

Carlo Goldoni è stato un drammaturgo veneziano nato nel 1707. È noto per aver riformato il teatro italiano, sostituendo le maschere e l'improvvisazione con copioni scritti e personaggi realistici. Dopo una formazione in legge, ha abbandonato la carriera forense per dedicarsi interamente alla scrittura teatrale, diventando il protagonista assoluto della commedia moderna.
