Cognitivism

Constructivism

Behaviorism

Cognitivism builds capacity for critical thinking and deeper conceptual understanding by engaging learners in knowledge acquisition, mental organization, and cognitive schema development. Activities drive mental connections.

Behaviorism allows focusing directly on observable outcomes, breaking down complex tasks, providing feedback on learner performance, and positively reinforcing target behaviors. This facilitates skill mastery.

Constructivism leverages intrinsic motivation and prior knowledge through active experimentation, contextualization, and reflective abstraction. Learners construct new meaning and refine mental models through experience.

Canvas LMS Essentials

Empowering faculty with the skills to manage their own Canvas courses independently

Employs a range of learning theories
  • Behaviorism: Step-by-step tutorials break complex tasks into simple steps.
  • Behaviorism & Cognitivism: Microlearning: lessons are chunked to teach concepts in 5min or less to accomodate busy schedules.
  • Cognitivism: Self-paced lessons can be taken in any order at any time, according to learner interest and need.
  • Constructivism: Opportunities to reflect, share, and learn from experiences with other faculty

Cognitivism Connection

Redesign the rules/responsibilities document to make it more engaging, which will lead to better retention of the guidelines. Create completely new modules for teaching/classroom management, which can both be self paced and used in an in-person workshop. This will be delivered and housed through Canvas LMS. The training will consist of conflict resolution between TAs and supervisors, setting time limits with supervisors, how to successfully answer student questions, and how to gain more ideas to strengthen teaching skills.

  • Classroom management involves situational decision-making
  • TAs need to develop professional judgment
  • Benefit from reflecting on real scenarios
  • Integrates policy with their own teaching philosophy

CJ Logistics - Strategic Employee Experience

Capstone Brief

The goal of the training is to equip CJ Logistics managers with advanced listening andengagement skills to foster trust and transparency. With the skills to navigate difficult conversations and actively encourage employee participation, managers can change the employee experience from a direct mandate style to a collaborative environment where staff feel confident sharing feedback and engaging with the organization.

Cognitivsm

Cognitivism would be an appropriate learning theory because instead of just memorizing facts, it would prioritize the social and situational context of the employee experience. It would treat listening as an active process of building meaning and help prepare managers to navigate difficult situations/conversations.

Social Learning Theory

The secondary theory to be used is Social Learning Theory. It proposes that people learn behavior through observation, modeling, and imitation. Because this instruction will focus on interactions with employees, it would be beneficial, as it would involve learning through observation, such as different scenarios, vicarious reinforcement by showing positive outcomes, and self-efficacy, helping managers feel more confident.
