• A new open-air space in Madrid. A large glass dome with an irregular shape shelters the more than 2,400 m² of this new venue, a key element of the new Madrid City Hall complex. This site was part of the grounds of the Buen Retiro Royal Palace in the 17th century and housed a recreational garden in the 19th century.
• It was definitively incorporated as a passageway and loading area for the Palace of Communications (1904–1919), designed by the architects Palacios and Otamendi.
• Today, after undergoing various alterations, this space—which can be accessed from both the portico at Calle Alcalá 50 and the one at Montalbán 1—is part of the new Madrid City Hall headquarters and can be used for both institutional events and celebrations. Availability of the space is subject to the condition that it does not interfere with the normal workday of the staff employed by the Madrid City Council.
