Cracking the code

Simple Sentence: One complete thought. Tip: Simple sentences do not have a comma conjunction

Clause: A group of words containing a subject and predicate.

Complex Sentence: A sentence with at least one independent and one dependent clause.

Dependent Clause: A phrase that can NOT stand alone as a sentence; it relies on the rest of the sentence.

Independent Clause: A phrase that can stand alone as its own sentence

Semicolon: A punctuation mark that signifies a pause longer than a comma but shorter than a period used when two sentences are related to each other.

Run On Sentence: More than one independent clause joined in a sentence without proper punctuation.
